A huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended yesterday’s COAST project Dissemination Workshop. We appreciate you taking time to join our discussions and research outputs on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data systems in response to current and future pandemics.
“IDI’s research capacity is admirable and I encourage @MakCoCIS to continue working with IDI. Let us continue to change the world through research & innovation”, Prof Tony Oyana, the Principal of @MakCoCIS mentioned as he officially closed the COAST project dissemination workshop
@GaliwangoR presenting the research results for the modelling and Air Quality work-streams, particularly the role of Air Quality and mobility data for disease risk analysis. #ArtificialIntelligence
Congratulations to @coastuganda on the amazing work in #AIforHealth! HASH PIs, @rratanshi and @iBaino are also PIs on this project. @j_nabende, @agnes_kiragga & Dr Daudi Jjingo (HASH theme leads) are part of the COAST workstreams contributing to this great success. Keep it up!
Our very own @jonathanmukiibi presenting the work done under the radio mining workstream under the leadership of @j_nabende on the @coastuganda project.
Some of the workstream key outputs include: speech to text models for Acholi, Lumasaaba and Luganda
We put gender in consideration while collecting or mining radio data and filtering radio conversations. We hoped to have more women voices, which are usually not heard.” @jonathanmukiibi
#HappeningNow: The COAST Project dissemination workshop is happening today at Kabira Country Club. We shall be discussing, “The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data systems in response to current and future pandemics.” Join the meeting here: https://t.co/V7PNdpBCHk
“The COAST project has produced groundbreaking outputs like an AI health response chatbot among others, with the potential to make major changes in the health care system. @iBaino
Our work on @coastuganda can potentially impact on public health, policy makers and clinical workflow on key aspects such as: community perceptions, inclusiveness, health campaigns, misconceptions and misinformation. @j_nabende@jonathanmukiibi@iBaino#Dissemination#AI4Good
The COAST Project's work stream leads and/or representatives are presenting their project outputs. Kudos to @coastuganda on the incredible progress made. Your efforts are making a real impact on the future of AI for health.

2. Develop and deploy AI driven detection and diagnosis tools for improved patient care and management.
3. To model and evaluate Covid-19 interventions for targeted government responses.

The project was set out to achieve three objectives
1. Strengthening data systems resulting in usable and equitable datasets for AI driven Covid-19 responses and future pandemics
"Women are underrepresented in the field of Artificial Intelligence. In 2018, the European Commission reported 313% more men than women working in digital professions." Prof Consolata Kabonesa highlighted the gender gap in #AI at the #COASTDisseminationWorkshop.

#HappeningNow: Join us live at the COAST Dissemination Workshop, where experts are discussing the role of Artificial Intelligence and Data systems in response to current and future pandemics. To be part: https://t.co/eOxOXYvX3G
Prof Consolata from School of Women and Gender Studies @Makerere highlighted for AI systems to be inclusive the datasets need to be representative - include all people.
#HappeningNow@coastuganda dissemination
While giving an overview of the @coastuganda project @iBaino the PI highlighted some of the key achievements of this project
- equitable and usable datasets which serve as enablers for ML and data science applications to pandemics
- prototypes of AI products

One thing for sure is that pandemics will happen considering the circumstances we live in now. The question is what developments have we put in place to counter them? I thank the COAST project for its contribution to using technology for health care. Dr. Maxwell Otim Onapa
