🤖 Artificial Intelligence: An Operational Reality for Counter-Terrorism.

At #CTWeek, UNICRI and @UN_OCT, together with 🇮🇳 India, 🇯🇵 Japan, 🇦🇪 the United Arab Emirates and 🇪🇺 the European Union, convened a high-level discussion on the opportunities, risks and governance challenges #AI presents for counter-terrorism.

Bringing together policymakers and practitioners, the event highlighted how international dialogue is translating into practical action.

🇦🇪 🇯🇵 🇮🇳 🇳🇬 Discussions featured the United Arab Emirates' approach to cybersecurity and emerging technologies, Japan and @Sony's work on generative AI, and operational experiences from India and Nigeria through the AI-POL and CT TECH+ initiatives.

As AI rapidly reshapes the security landscape, effective governance, international cooperation and operational readiness are becoming as important as technological innovation itself.

⚠️ Countering Disinformation, Strengthening CBRN Preparedness

🛜 When a CBRN crisis occurs, accurate information can save lives. Trusted, coordinated communication is essential to protecting communities and maintaining public confidence.

🇲🇩 🇺🇦 In Chișinău, Moldova, government communicators, emergency decision-makers and CBRN experts from Moldova and Ukraine joined a Tabletop Exercise on Communication and Awareness Raising for CBRN Crises, organized by UNICRI, the @OSCE and the @GPWMDofficial Initiative to Counter WMD Disinformation.

Key highlights
🔹 Strengthened crisis communication and interagency coordination.
🔹 Tested responses to rumours and disinformation through realistic TTX scenarios.
🔹 Advanced regional cooperation and implementation of UNSCR 1540.

Funded by the European Union (through @UN_Disarmament), @GAC_Corporate (funding the GP Initiative) and Finland.

☢️ Addressing CBRN risks requires more than resources:  It requires trust, coordination and a shared commitment to collective security.

🇪🇺🇺🇳 On the sidelines of the EU-funded #EUCBRNCoE Academy, the first International Donors Coordination Meeting for South East and Eastern Europe brought together partner countries, donors, international organizations and implementing partners to strengthen cooperation against evolving CBRN risks.

Participating partner countries included 🇦🇱 Albania, 🇦🇲 Armenia, 🇧🇦 Bosnia and Herzegovina, 🇬🇪 Georgia, 🇲🇩 Moldova, 🇲🇪 Montenegro, 🇲🇰 North Macedonia, 🇷🇸 Serbia and 🇺🇦 Ukraine.
Donor countries represented included 🇨🇦 Canada, 🇫🇷 France, 🇮🇹 Italy, 🇳🇴 Norway and 🇺🇸 the United States.

Key highlights
🔹 Presentation of the new Regional Action Plan 2026–2030
🔹 74 national and regional project proposals showcased
🔹 Enhanced coordination between partner countries, donors and international organizations

Illegal and counterfeit pesticides pose a growing transnational challenge at the intersection of crime and justice, public health, trade, and environmental protection. They undermine regulatory systems and are linked to broader illicit networks.

To address this critical challenge the “Ask the Expert: Illegal and Counterfeit Pesticides – The Conversation Continues” brought together experts in a live Q&A session, organized by #GEFFARM Programme, led by @UNEP and ASEAN IPM Action Plan.
