Thankfully @bendingspoons doesn’t make me choose between being a tech bro or a fashionista...
Diaries from fashion week and my first in Milano with the Spooner team. From bad to good:
-> Got a 50 year old family necklace robbed off my neck.
-> Put my recent reading of Never Split the Difference to work trying to get into the @LoroPiana show. Failed. Good sales practices nonetheless.
-> Hung around the entrance amongst the Kardashian-mobiles hoping to catch @chamath. No sighting.
-> Did some shots with the team at dinner with beautifully authentic food. As Klopp (a big idol of mine) said to James Milner once: “When we train, we train 100%; when we play, we play at 100%... and when we party, we party at 100%”. That’s the energy of this team. No excuses.
-> Booked 20 meetings for @Brightcove while learning how we help media companies across the US
(1) run a world-class video strategy with fewer resources
(2) fire up their video monetization, avoiding ad-blockers and/or creating best in class secure-access
(3) how the new AI-suite allows customers to prepare video for audiences across platforms, channels and languages in (relatively) NO TIME!
Goals for this week:
-> Get mugged less
-> Book more meetings
-> Speak to more Brightcove customers and US media companies about their challenges and dreams
Let’s go!
I love books:
their smell,
their cover art,
the way they rest on a shelf,
sideways,
upright.
I love literature:
reality reduced to its essence,
distilled
like magic.
To read an author speaking from the past
is time travel.
I love learning something new in a book
and meeting it again, soon after,
elsewhere.
This coincidence repeats itself
the more I read.
I love writing:
the purest form of creation.
The only tool is language,
built into our being.
Speech,
or pen and paper,
or iPhone notes
may carry it to others
but only words make the art.
No paint,
no marble,
no stage,
no lights,
nothing physical.
All is words.
And what are words
but a proxy for consciousness
intangible, everywhere, timeless?
It is when I am stressed,
or sad,
or anxious,
that writing flows through me.
Like a river over stone,
words wash over me;
they cleanse my spirit,
and re-energise my soul.
This is one of those times.
Books gave me this
the power of words,
the imagination,
the taste to know what good writing is.
I forget most of what I read,
and yet when I return,
even years between,
memory unfolds with each word.
The book has lived in me
all this time.
And I think
writing is the same:
it moves through me
from God,
and then it is gone
forgotten,
rarely re-read,
if at all.
But my gut says:
the more I write, the more I know;
the more I create,
the more I give;
the more my spirit grows,
the more my life grows,
the more other lives grow.
All from reading books
the creation of others.
Creation breeds creation.
I love books.
A petting zoo can be good for people's mental health but is it ethical? A letter to Cheryl Abbate, philosopher in the moral treatment of animals at @unlv. https://t.co/7rDQOW5qkb
We finished the last week of school before Christmas break writing a persuasive letter to admin convincing them about the NEED and positives of buddy benches on the playground @stmikeswdstk.
Have you thought about using https://t.co/QiTRiXygLH? Not only is this a great alternative to Twitter, but it is the best way (in our eyes!) to get heard by those in the public eye
Posting open letters to https://t.co/QiTRiXygLH means reaching intellectual and political leaders and engaging in real conversation. Have you thought about publishing your open letters to https://t.co/QiTRiXygLH?
The Govt’s 10-year plan for dementia should have been published this year. Now, we've been told that the plan will come in 'due course'.
But dementia doesn’t wait for due course. And neither will we. It’s time for #PlanD.

This is an open letter I sent yesterday to the @NHL, @WTA and @atptour . Please everyone read it and share as much as possible. It is primarily about saving lives in Ukraine and what sport in a democratic world must do for that. https://t.co/68OKpDSh4M

150 scientists signed an open letter about COP15, incl. 40 Profs & 80 PhDs
But we couldn't get it published, and got only a single sentence in one paper
If media won't give a voice to scientists, is it any wonder activists go to such lengths to get the science talked about?
Exposed: My shocking new investigation has laid bare the state of the UK’s postal service📮
We sent 240 letters, both 1st and 2nd class, from Royal Mail post boxes around England.
Only 11 arrived on time and 145 are still nowhere to be seen.

As if the Policing, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill couldnt be more horrific, a Labour MP is using it to enact policies that endanger sex workers. If you're in a Labour constituency, write to your MP today. I contacted my MP @Peter_Dowd this morning & am happy to share my letter
