Norman Dunne, Co. Kildare, is the 2023 RDS Sustainable Farming Award Winner 🏆
Norman, a fourth-generation farmer from Kilgraigue in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, embarked on a transformative journey in 2015 by transitioning from conventional tillage farming to a more holistic and regenerative approach. His main focus has been on improving soil health, recognising its vital role in fostering the well-being of plants, animals, and humans.
Through conservation agriculture principles, Norman has successfully reduced his reliance on chemicals and achieved remarkable results.
Norman has demonstrated his commitment to circular management practices by adopting the three Rs of the #CircularEconomy — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle — on his farm. He minimises emissions, enhances energy efficiency, conserves water, and manages his supply chain sustainably.

🚨 WHO IS KEVIN BAKHURST??
Well, a cursory glance at Kevin's (the new DG at RTÉ) Twitter profile will clearly display that in his most recent role within OFCOM in the UK, he spent significant time defending GB News and their "arrangements" with unscrupulous Tory politicians 🤔
@Cocopoppyhead @catherineeats @saoirse_mchugh @KateRaworth Not that I know much but I agree. I think @jasonhickel work on de-growth may be relevant reading.

Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital, was founded in 1325.
Until Spanish arrival, it was one of the world's largest cities and the hub of a powerful empire.
The Aztec empire was able to grow rapidly in size and dominance thanks to their ingenious floating gardens or chinampas...
The 4 plots were rye grass with
< 10% clover. All his rye grass swards are farmed like Plot 4, with 50% less N, his MSS fields are getting even less
His N use efficency has improved dramatically by using foliar & granular N in the right form to match soil & weather conditions
@MimiVonPeach We got locked in here a few times, and tbh, I was/am quite hostile to the notion that people think that they're entitled to do so. Given the car culture in the NE, is it just accepted or does it piss people off?
Farming has been getting a lot of negative press, so here are some positive results from our project.

CAP has seen authorised derogations on environmental standards. These derogations, ostensibly for food security, are pushed hard by the agribusiness-lobby & criticised by many scientists. So who's right? New data helps us separate myth from reality.

In this thread, I give a point by point refutation of all climate crisis denial as any sort of legitimate viewpoint. Climate crisis denial is a crank, baseless conspiracy theory. A delusion, a lie or just plain ignorance. It is not a legitimate viewpoint.

It’s #NatureFriendlyFarmingWeek
Day 1 is ‘what is nature friendly farming’
There is a long and a short answer for that!
Short answer:
a farm that is not in a constant battle against nature, but instead is working in some way with it for the benefit of both.
And these contemporary bigots who burn tents in Dublin City would no doubt have cheered when some 50,000 Irish refugees were deported from Britain back to Ireland in the late 1840s, and wept as authorities in Liverpool fed some 25,000 destitute Irish each day in January 1847.
NOVA classification was conceived in Latin America in response to the corporate capture of indigenous food cultures and local culinary traditions by profit-hungry multinationals originating in the Global North.
Critics of the UPF concept want you to forget this - 🧵
