The response on the ground is moving at full speed following the two devastating earthquakes that struck north-central Venezuela.

On June 24th, 1859, Henry Dunant witnessed the horrors of the Battle of Solferino.

This inspired him to propose a treaty for armies to care for wounded soldiers and create national societies to support military medical services. In 1863, he co-founded the International Committee of the Red Cross
