Public records show SF Supervisor Mandelman pushed the city to install traffic dots to deter skateboarders in spite of concerns by SF MTA who were "so hesitant to use them" bc they are "not intended" to be driven over. The dots are also famously dangerous for bikers/skaters.
SF has always stepped up ensuring events that would otherwise be pure chaos can happen in a much safer way, with buy-in from neighbors *and* participants, while utilizing the planning and activation experience of City departments - including @RecParkSF and @SFMTA_Muni.
I guess we're going to have another SF Police shitshow in two weeks because the city including @RafaelMandelman can't see skateboarders as anything other than criminals. https://t.co/4NeA4FMX5v
@StreetsblogNYC@Julcuba@BrianLehrer@WNYC Thank you for mentioning enforcement by design. Let’s start thinking beyond “bike” lanes and dig into what it means to allocate ample and appropriate space on all city streets for the broader category of “mid-speed mobility”.
Near-fatal e-bike crashes underscore the imperative of designing mobility infrastructure with velocity in mind—ahead of mode.
All concerned about 30+ mph bike speeds are served when we advocate for “mid speed mobility” instead of the too-broad and limited frame of “bike”lanes.
If the possibility of change excites you, and you want to see your city thrive into the future, please reach out. The world needs a Space Travelers Coalition ready to reimagine the road ahead.

On a recent trip to Detroit we stopped by this piece of pumpable infrastructure sandwiched between a pedestrian path and a four-lane road.
Less than 100’ long, the series of moguls is an offshoot from the walkway, and has a sign beside it: “Bike Way Challenge Bumpy Road”.

Challenges to increase both mobility and joy are what excite us today. As the world begins to boil and fear sets in, the imperative of play in moments of despair can serve as the point of departure from the status quo and allow us to imagine a better way for all.
The CRUISER is BACK
Twenty white-wheeled completes are ready for wigglin today, and more are on the way.

@jeffreytumlin@SFMTA_Muni We’ve attended city meetings for the last year for this explicit purpose and have received no follow-up from the agency. Our contributions to the discussion of advocacy for small wheel accessibility have been set aside in favor of violent architecture & police. Time’s up.
This Wednesday, 7/19 we’ll provide free, secure 🛹 check for those participating in the SFPD Comissioner mtg at City Hall (🛹 aren’t allowed inside). ✊ Please share so folks use this resource (RSVP not req’d but helps plan for storage space & staff): https://t.co/osDRcG2HYu
