Since Ep3, Star Wars movies have had diminishing returns from the box office.
I've had no friends ask me about this movie.
The trailer has less views than the SW Angry Birds Darth Maul teaser.
Apathy is death and we're seeing it in real time.
Correct.
Not to beat a dead horse but Star Wars is NOT in a good place in terms of pop culture relevance. Fan interest outside of niche online spaces is lower than it has been in a long time.
Disney should be doing more to market what’s coming!
Yes people do change over time
However core values like willingness to give up all to save the ones you love tend to remain intact
When Luke confronted Kylo on Crait he never felt bad or apologized, he made fun of Kylo
That's not character progression
I feel a lot of people don’t think about, or realize, how much a person can change as they grow older. Especially after living through different types of trauma. Sure, people will or can retain certain characteristics, but their outlook may change, their desires, likes or interests, or even relationships with people they care about. Hell, sometimes they can become completely unrecognizable, for better or worse. Life and the environment you find yourself in can really have an impact on who you are as a person.
To think someone is going to be the same person in their teens or early 20’s after 20+ years, and loads of adversity, is a bit foolish.
@GeekSupreme_@risebluesun Exactly
And when he finally does confront Kylo on that salt planet, he still doesn't try to redeem him or even apologize for his actions
@pbeterbide@risebluesun Thought about this a good bit
If Luke felt so bad about how he treated Kylo, then why is he making fun of him at the end of the movie?
Feels like Luke would go to Crait and try to appeal to Kylo, redeem him like he did with his father
For me, that's why he felt so different
@ParzivalTwitch@TheWorldClassBS The two were completely disconnected, yes. It's an odd narrative decision that feels completely separate from the entire prior narrative.
@49ersPlusPod@TheWorldClassBS The numbers are a comparison of ticket sales from the first Disney backed SW film to the most recent
To be fair, post Covid box office sales are down 37%, the 85% drop here is not purely less fans
However this is Disney's 3rd SW movie in a row to not profit at the box office
@ParzivalTwitch@TheWorldClassBS While it was better, it still lacked any world building, character development, or narrative continuation from where we left off last season
@NickAirus@ScriptTrooper Post Covid, overall box office sales are down 37%
Post Covid, Star Wars box office sales are down 75%
So, to answer your question, the average movie is doing twice as well as Mando
@MisterFizz@BasedPota18 The production budget was $144m after tax rebates
Marketing is reported at $100m
That makes the total expense $244m
The theater takes roughly half, so the movie needs to sell ~$488m to break even
Now I liked the movie and was there opening night
@BasedPota18 I agree with you
Feels more like quantity over quality, which from what I understand stems from Disney demanding content to put on +
The games thing does stink. I enjoyed the Jedi games but that's about it
@MisterFizz@BasedPota18 The theater gets roughly half the box office, they don't show the films for free.
They did get a $21m tax credit so the budget was only $144m +$100m marketing, so expense of $244m
They need roughly $488m before it's profitable
@AceJumper19@BasedPota18 I'm not sure that it does have impressive numbers anymore
The shows attract less and less viewers every time a new one is released
The most recent data we had showed that people watch the first 6 movies. The only Disney era film to crack the top 10 was Rogue One
@MisterFizz@BasedPota18 Post Covid ticket sales as a whole are down 37%
Post Covid Star Wars ticket sales are down 75%
It's not an industry issue, its a franchise that's lost it's audience at the box office and on streaming
I don't like it but I recognize it
