I’m excited to be one of the speakers at the Encrypted by Design for African Startups event tomorrow in celebration of Global Encryption Day hosted.
I’ll be leading a 30-minute policy roundtable where we’ll debunk common myths and unpack the regulatory pushbacks surrounding encryption-focused policies — a conversation that’s more relevant than ever in today’s digital world.
But you don’t have to wait until tomorrow to tap into the wealth of insights being shared. Sessions start today, exploring why encryption matters and the foundations of safety-by-design.

We’re still on our I AM IN STEM, YOU TOO CAN JOIN series with @AdoraNwodo
We started the conversation with how she went from not being able to share her ideas to finding her voice in public speaking.

"Over 2.6 billion people still do not have access to the opportunities provided by the Internet, & we do not have access to their creativity & their ideas," said our Pres & CEO Sally Wentworth.
Sally spoke at @PTCouncil yesterday, discussing digital infrastructure & development.
Growing up, Ruth Njeri had nearly no Internet access.
Now, after strengthening her skills through our Designing and Deploying Computer Networks course, she is the lead engineer of the Tanda Community Network (@tandacn).

Happy #UADay.
Universal Acceptance (UA) espouses the principle that all domain names should (and must) be treated equally (ICANN, 2021).
This recognition, acceptance, and processing of all domain names, including new, Internationalised Domain Names (IDN), are critical for the successful integration of Africa in the digital universe.
The successful implementation of UA in Africa implies significant change management.
Governments, corporations, and internet service providers must collaborate to make UA a reality in Africa (ICANN, 2021). The model of collaboration followed by the African Union Commission in introducing the '.africa' web extension is an ideal example of how universal acceptance can be implemented in the region (AUC, 2017).
Universal Acceptance has a crucial role in epistolising the digital future of Africa. Its implementation allows users to engage in their local tongue creating a sense of unity, inclusivity, and diversity that Africa revels.
Despite the challenges it poses, with collaboration and investment, UA has the potential to further digital inclusion and bring everybody into the world of the internet.
One World. One Internet.

In 2007, we had so many interactions on Community Networks. One name stuck in more...#Telecenters. The first Hub in Nigeria (#RedHub) had just been created by me and we wanted to increase that number. Somehow, I stumbled on #UgaBYTES and we started a healthy relationship with @KIRUCODO in 2008. It's awesome to recount history.
In need of funds, we had used #petitionspot (now https://t.co/sZQ9KhXlgS) to call some online platforms to order for #Uganda. How time flies.
#Funding never stopped us from #functioning.
We celebrate the past, present, and future of the global village, especially #Africans.
