As a liver doctor who has treated patients with hepatitis B for decades, this change to the vaccine schedule is a mistake. The hepatitis B vaccine is safe and effective. The birth dose is a recommendation, NOT a mandate.

Before the birth dose was recommended, 20,000 newborns a year were infected with hepatitis B. Now, it’s fewer than 20. Ending the recommendation for newborns makes it more likely the number of cases will begin to increase again. This makes America sicker.

Acting CDC Director O’Neill should not sign these new recommendations and instead retain the current, evidence-based approach.

The reason the HPV vaccine is recommended for preadolescent children is that the goal is to get them to finish the sequence *before* they become sexually active. The vaccine is shown to prevent multiple cancers in both men and women. And there is no evidence it impacts sexual behavior in young people.

I try hard to stay out of the mud with stuff like this. But this is egregious and, in my opinion, harmful to our ability to advocate for coverage of these procedures in the future.

I am a proponent of orthobiologics to improve outcomes and give people options for care, but you must be aware of several things (A thread):

We are no more than petulant children who must be hounded to do the "important" work of documentation.

It doesn't matter if you've been doing emergency cases, up all night, and exhausted. It doesn't matter if you just want to spend some time with your family.

Nope, there are bills to be paid. That float is costing the CEO his bonus.

If documentation matters so much, hire scribes and prioritize an EMR that automates the busy work.

Shoot, I know a surgeon who couldn't complete his notes because the keyboards were all broken. When he complained to IT, he was called a liar.

Instead of acting like a 48 hour grace period is generous, why not ask the neurosurgeon who hasn't seen his family in 3 days why he doesn't care about cosigning the PA's discharge summary...
