@wild_bruce10265@bashscriptorz his biggest mistake was not invoking the act earlier and stopping the BS after a day or two. He owed the fringe nothing especially when some were explicitly coming to overthrow the government.
@pocket_aces7777 Until JT I voted Cons and even Reform; some bootlicker. They haven’t put forth anyone viable since then. There is no need to negotiate as the deal is locked in for ten years. Trump isn’t pulling out of anything. If he does he’ll bury himself and his party. Use your head.
@pocket_aces7777 Put Pierre in the chair and tell me how the outcome would have been different. Short of simply giving Orange Julius everything he wants, this was always going to be the outcome. There is still free trade for the next decade. No one is pulling out.
@TheRiversEdgeAB The deal is in place. It’s not going anywhere. It’s all noise. No one is backing out because right now, no one can afford to.
The US doesn’t buy from Canada for charity. They can’t make some things as good or cheap as they can buy them from us. Simple
@very_real_guy@elderservant1@Mattpetti32 Orange Julius is not that stupid. If he triggers the 6 month withdrawal it'd end his power and it will bury his party when the midterms come this fall. If they stopped buying Canadian goods today, they'd be in freefall tomorrow. Canada would too, but the US would suffer.
@tvc1five no one in that seat would have had a different current state unless they were willing to fully bend the knee to Orange Julius. Carney is a significantly smarter man and not selling the country out is the correct move.
@YoungStreete Trump is gone in two years or less and then hopefully some level headed adults are at the table. He won't pull out of the deal because it would bury him and his part for years to come. He just wants to sound tough but will end up backing down as always.
@wealthmoose Trump's buddy and big donor owns the other bridge and doesn't want to lose the tolls so he pressured Orange Julius into saying something. Canada paid for the bridge. Once some is paid back, profits are split. It's a pretty simple deal.
@very_real_guy@elderservant1@Mattpetti32 his point is that Canada has the same deal today as they did on June 30th. Nothing has changed. No one has or will pull out of anything. There will be bluster and BS from the South but the deal is in place and will stay there mostly unchanged until 2036.
@Mattpetti32 Nothing is cancelled. It’s in force for 10 years unless someone pulls out or new terms are mutually agreed to. Nothing has changed. It’s not rocket science folks.
@ezralevant As opposed to bribing an MP to quit his job and give up his pension so that PP51 could take his seat?
Seems like these other MP's are adults who made a decision and will face the consequences at the next election. At least they're still doing the job.
@wealthmoose We have a trade deal with the US. That can change is 6 months after the US chooses to terminate; which they won't do. There will be annual reviews and Trump will back off like he always does. Terminating the deal will bury the Republican party for years to come.
@parrotyaccount3@hardyrenos The culture and the strength is in the diversity. Why would we want to lean into everyone blending to be the same? That will lead to the disaster that you see playing out in the government down south with cult like followers.
@hardyrenos Canada's replacement rate is at 1.25 while 2.1 is needed for a population to replace itself. Without immigration the country fails because the "moral conservatives" aren't doing their part. Growth depends on people.
@TruthFringe One is a globally respected leader and the other won't even allow for his own party to hold a free and fair leadership review.
A conservative cheered at the stampede is like valedictorian of summer school...not really all that impressive.
@mvbenter@Tablesalt13 that is exactly what's going to happen. The people pulling the strings on Trump won't let him pull out of the deal because it would be brutal to their own economy. There will be press conferences and news articles but in the end, TACO.
