I said this a while back, and I’m going to say it again. It’s that important. You can argue it, if you like, but, it won’t change the truth of what I say.

Whether Fani Willis or Jack Smith indict, prosecute and convict Donald Trump before, or after the election…it doesn’t matter. Not in the grand scheme of things.

If Donald Trump fell over dead today, do you actually think the GOP is going to snap back into a 1980 republican party? If so, you are delusional.

The structure is now in place, and, in Trump’s absence, there are others who would quickly move to fill the vacuum created by Trump’s departure. They have decided on the path they are going to take, and they are going to stay on that path, with….or without Donald Trump.

We have to grasp this. The failure to do so comes with the potential for serious consequences.

Donald Trump is no longer THE problem. That window closed quickly. Now, he is merely a part of the problem. Collectively, though, the radicalized GOP is a BIG problem.

Look, my deep desire to see Trump prosecuted and convicted is driven by a simple fact: like many of you, I just fucking hate this guy. I want to see his orange punk ass brought to justice.

However, I don’t, for one second….think that Trump is THE problem we must tackle. The problem to overcome…is the GOP and the fascism that is now woven through it. The GOP supports Trump. They defend Trump. Trump is NOTHING without them. The GOP….is the problem.

We must vote. We must donate. We must break records with everything we do. More money than ever before. More people casting their votes than ever before. Overkill. Do it all on a level of ethical and moral extremism. It has to be.

So, while we all want to see Trump’s ass in an orange jump suit, his conviction doesn’t end the threat to democracy. We’re way beyond that. The GOP is the threat to democracy, now, and for the foreseeable future.

The GOP….is what we have to dismantle. Dismantle, as in take it DOWN with our votes, support and donations. Over, and over…and over again.

American volunteer Cooper Andrews "Harris" died in the battles for Bakhmut.

The death of the former marine of the US Army was reported by journalist Jake Hanrahan, who emphasized that neither he nor his acquaintances knew about Andrews' participation in the defense of Bakhmut.

"He was a member of the Foreign Legion and later the Resistance Committee. He was ambushed by Russian troops while protecting evacuees. Our condolences go out to his family and friends," Hanrakhan said.

Cooper Andrews was 26 years old.

Let’s talk about something that I think will be critical going into the 2024 election.

My eighty year old Dad has logged tens of thousands of miles as a runner over the last 50 years. While he’s slowed down a bit, he still hits the gym at least 3-4 mornings a week.

Freezing cold, shin deep snow, 100 plus degree heat, stiff winds….or a down pour of frog choking rain? Didn’t matter. He went.

He wasn’t all hyped up wanting to lose twenty pounds, or just wanting to look better for the coming summer. Those folks weren’t runners, to him. They were just people who were using running as a means to a temporary end.

He was a runner. It was part of his identity. He didn’t need to get “psyched up” to go run when it was cold enough to frost your eye lashes as your exhaled breath rose upward. If you were a runner, running is just what you did. It was really as simple as that.

What’s my Dad’s identity as a runner have to do with the 2024 election?

We have a potential crisis that we must avoid.

The more I look around, the more I see people clinging to the hope of the indictments, prosecutions and convictions of Donald Trump and his inner circle for their motivation. More specifically, they feel it must happen before 2024, to hobble his chances at being re-elected.

As a psychology guy, I am concerned about that. Fortunately, with this tweet….I offer a solution to what I am concerned about.

Like the person who wants to just look better for the coming summer, who runs their ass off in April & May…but then regresses to kicking back in their recliner as the summer heat, and then winter cold arrives, so, too, can the person praying that Trump is convicted before 2024 to “save the country” find themselves drifting into a mind numbing fog of “Fuck it. There’s no sense in even voting, now” if Trump isn’t convicted before 2024.

That’s how goals fail us. We make one thing contingent on the other. If we achieve the goal, we’re pumped up. If we fail to reach the goal…like seeing Trump convicted of serious crimes before 2024…we are instantly deflated, and the motivation that kept us moving forward…is now gone.

This is why our identity is so crucial.

See, if I AM a voter, and I see that as just being part of who I AM….then, just like my Dad BEING a runner, voting is simply a byproduct of who I AM. No matter what.

Thunderstorm? Don’t feel good? Snowing like hell? Leg in a cast? Dog just died? It. Doesn’t. Matter. I AM a voter. Thus, I will get up off of my ass….and go vote.

For every excuse someone else can think of as a reason for why they wouldn’t go vote, as a VOTER….something I AM…I have long ago planned for taking care of it….or have a backup plan…where applicable. For the things I can’t control…like weather…I just forge on through it. I have to. I AM a voter. The mental and emotional anguish I would feel if I didn’t behave in a way that is consistent with who I AM, is simply not something I’m willing to endure…for any reason.

Who are you? No. I mean WHO are you? Can you answer that question in the context of the 2024 election (or any other election)?

Shift from seeing voting as something you usually do, to making it part of your identity; something you ARE. It feels empowering to BE a voter. It also ensures that even when something you hoped for, doesn’t happen, and you fall into the dumper, emotionally, you STILL cast your ballot. It’s just automatic, and requires no pep talk.

It you ARE a voter, you will vote. It’s as simple as that.
