Americans of all political stripes believe that ultraprocessed foods are addictive and harmful, and support policies that could strengthen safeguards and hold the food industry accountable. @PublicHealth@CornellCALS@CornellBPP@CornellUCOMM https://t.co/63S5kW0mQo
I am officially a graduate of @CornellBPP.
Today as I reflect on this journey toward my second Master’s degree, I feel deeply grateful, humbled, and hopeful.
At @Cornell, I studied MPA, majoring in Government, Politics, and Policy Studies with a minor in Peace Studies, completed the STML Certificate, and contributed to research and policy projects focused on education, governance, women’s rights, fragile states, and sustainable development.
My heartfelt gratitude to Cornell President Michael I. Kotlikoff, Dean Colleen Barry, Professor Thomas, Professor Michael, and all the faculty members, mentors, and supporters who guided me and became part of this journey and success.
I dedicate this chapter of my life to the memories of my father, General Abdul Wasi Ghafari, who was martyred in 2020 for his service to his country and people.
To my husband, @mbashirw — thank you for being my constant source of strength, love, and support through every challenge.
To my daughter, Lara Bashir — you gave this journey meaning and purpose. Every time I looked at you, I was reminded why this work matters: for your future and for the future of every Afghan girl.
Above all, I dedicate this degree and every achievement connected to it to the women and girls of Afghanistan — especially every Afghan girl who dreams of going to school or university despite barriers, fear, and injustice: This achievement belongs to you.

Yesterday, I graduated from Cornell University with a Masters of MPA in Economics & Finance Policy with a special qualification in Infrastructure, Policy, Finance & Management (IPFM). Couldn't have done this without my family, friends, mentors & professors #Cornell#Somaliland
Cornell has launched the Cornell Center on Democracy to mobilize leading scholars to strengthen democracy through rigorous research, education, and public engagement.
Rooted in Cornell’s land‑grant mission to serve the public good, the center aims to advance practical, objective and globally relevant ideas to improve democratic institutions and practices across the U.S. and abroad.
The leaders of @CornellCAS, @CornellBPP, and @CornellLaw founded the center based on a shared belief: that democracy requires constant renewal – fresh ideas, adaptive institutions, and citizens equipped to participate thoughtfully and effectively.
Rachel Beatty Riedl, a professor in the Brooks School and the Department of Government in the Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences, will serve as the Peggy J. Koenig ’78 director of the Cornell Center on Democracy.
