It's not just applicable to the middle class but to the majority of Indians. The deep-rooted cause of this behavior is the tendency to conform, as Indian society often values consensus over dissent. Sure, but even the districts closer to Delhi are not that developed in these states, which is due to the fact that their govts were/are not opportunistic enough.

In case you are interested: look at the gdp per capita of all the districts of Haryana (including the ones that are far from Delhi) and compare them with the gdp per capita of districts of UP, Rajasthan that are equidistant from Delhi as the Haryana’s districts, you will see the difference.

I don’t want to go into hypotheticals but there is UP and some parts of Rajasthan (Alwar and Bharatpur) in the NCR region but they did see such development why? Simple reason is they were not opportunistic enough. What is bothering you from using the critical thinking and simply acknowledge this fact?

@HPhobiaWatch I critized the author’s use of “most patriotic” phrase towards gujaratis, there is difference between being “patriotic” and “most patriotic”. Gujjus are patriotic but not the most patriotic, you need to go above and beyond to become most patriotic.

I doubt about the most patriotic take cuz joining armed forces is a big indicator of showing patriotism and we don’t see gujjus there. Though I would give them that they support businesses of all kinds but they only focus on their own community, they are self-focused (not country focused).

@AravSrinivas There is a famous temple in Rajasthan devoted towards the warrior Barbarika called Shree Khatu Shyam Mandir. People of north Rajasthan and Haryana are big devotees of Warrior Barbarika and they regularly go to this temple.
