Washington D.C. officials, the American farmer could use your attention/help.
While many support a lot of what is being done globally, it is coming at a great loss to farming operations. Grain prices continue to fall as we lose export opportunities.
At the same time, inputs such as fertilizer continue to rise. The fight between Israel and Iran caused the world to lose the 3rd and 4th largest urea exporters to stop production. Phosphate is the highest price it has ever been vs grain values.
This situation where inputs are incredibly high and grains are incredibly low are putting enormous strain on the farming community. At the core of every country in the world, feeding its people remains the most important. Our farmers are incredibly resiliant, but everyone has a breaking point.
I cannot say that I know what the answer is, but your attention would be appreciated.
@RobertKennedyJc Removing the ability for farmers to use glyphosate, which is currently heavily restricted and monitored, will only increase the use of other herbicides and increase mechanical cultivation. Mechanical cultivation using tractors burns fuel and increases farmers carbon footprint.
@Victorshi2020 Spinning the facts- 2b gallons is approximately 5000 ac/ft. Not an exorbitant amount- farmers/districts will take water at anytime and are prepared. This water is stored in ground basin aquifers and on farm storage basins. Trump will change water policy in Ca for the better.
The critical funding in the continuing resolution bill could make the difference between planting a crop next year and giving up. We appreciate members of Congress rolling up their sleeves to ensure farmers can continue to deliver a safe, affordable and abundant food supply.
Congress should have voted on farm aid months ago. Instead, we’ve held our entire agricultural sector hostage to a continuing resolution that is full of unimportant Democrat pet projects and needless waste.
It is an insult to farm families that we were not able to give our growers and producers the support that they need through a standalone bill. Those who feed, fuel, and clothe us deserve better.
