@afneil We don’t really have Scottish banks in a meaningful way anymore, Gordon Brown seen to that, and successive UK governments. Couldn’t stand Scotland being successful, now several hundred year old institutions barely exist. RBS is NatWest, Bank of Scotland is a name above a door.
@little_pengelly You religious fanatics want to keep Northern Ireland in the 18th Century. Move on, evolve, like the rest of us. Then maybe Northern Ireland will soar.
@annewitha_e@Leigh_Phillips Fails to notice a lot actually. To say nothing of the 411 years from 1296 to 1707 where Scots were independent (& arguably before), nor the Jacobite uprisings that happened during the Union (1715/1745), and all the other expressions of self determination pre-dating neoliberalism!
@Leigh_Phillips Scottish Independence and the struggles for it, date as far back as the 9th Century. The Union is a blip in that timeline, but at no stage did the people of Scotland entirely surrender their ambitions to retain their independence. Support waivers, its existence does not.
@NoteTaker_X We could have a vote in future, but if anyone was asked today to surrender their independence to another country, and to allow that other country to control their resources, economy, whether their sons & daughters die in illegal wars etc… I really doubt they’d vote for it.
@RealMGSimpson@ReformUKScot Good heavens, how terribly industrious. Elected to Parliament, walks out of Parliament, then announces he’s off to do some ‘proper work’. The servants must be exhausted keeping up.
@ChrisCostello_ And ‘how’ the funding …
However, it’s a consultation isn’t it? Why don’t you propose constructive ideas instead of carping from the sidelines 🥀
@ChrisCostello_ You’d think a councillor would welcome greater power to the council. It’s not centralising power, it’s creating larger more strategic authorities, with smaller councils at the community level within that. I think we need more detail and had the funding arrangements will work.
@boneyunks2271@ginadavidsonlbc It’s actually not dissimilar to the way things were in the past, where local communities had better representation, and larger regional authorities could be strategic around economy and infrastructure etc. This is actually a good thing. SNP can’t win either way.
@GrantCalder_92 Shut up, the constitutional question can be on the table until Westminster respects Scotland with serious home rule , or until such a point where Scots don’t want it. 50%+ of us want independence, you don’t get to decide.
@DuxVul Accepting that the Parliament in England has already colossally and recklessly wasted our resources, whilst poverty runs a mock, is not a reason for the continuation of Union. It’s an argument for better decision making on our economy, taken locally in Scotland.
@ScousePatriot45 This is your problem, always looking at the past and re-litigating previous conflicts, but no hope, vision, or plan for the future. You can respect history and lives lost, whilst thinking ahead, the two are not mutually exclusive.
