Wheelchair users have been trying for ages to raise awareness about their wheelchairs being broken so often when they fly, and the devastating impact this has on them.
@AmericanAir baggage handlers decided to give a demonstration of how much they enjoy breaking them 😡
Disability burnout is real. I’m so tired of fighting for adequate caregivers. The owner of the agency said they’re being more picky than usual bc they know I want the best. You should want the best care for all clients!
We need more mental health services that are rooted in how disabled people think and feel. People with cerebral palsy are much more likely to experience anxiety and depression than non disabled people.
sometimes people take advantage of your softness and hurt you without guilt. yet they get upset when someone else takes advantage of theirs - that they were soft and got hurt. many are so far removed from empathy, the situation has to happen to them directly so remorse is felt.
the funniest thing about being overly observant is catching ur friends by surprise. they’ll be like “im back with my ex” and im like “yeah ive known for weeks bc when i mentioned dating you scratched your head 3 seconds longer than you usually do” and they’re like “what”
It's tragic that so many people have been convinced that the homeless, the people at the very bottom of the pile, the people discarded by society and left to live on the streets are somehow the problem. Instead of the people and the system that produce homelessness.
i am deeply sorry to any of you who felt comfortable enough to open up to someone about your trauma & insecurities, only to have them throw it in your face when you were arguing later. that’s so unfortunate. that stings in a very different way. i hope you can heal from that soon.
Had my upper level BSW orientation @VCUSocialWork today! So excited to start this upper level coursework and truly begin my journey as a social worker. Ready to join the disabled SW’s of the world.
Calling the needs of disabled people “special needs,” turns them into a burden and makes it easier to deny them.
Disabled people have human needs.
Not special needs.
Not burdens.
Human needs.
