@joseflanders@DannyParkins Happy to help people appreciate and enjoy my adopted home. LA gets a bad rap because it’s so sorely misunderstood by people who have preconceived beliefs about California/SoCal. It’s not perfect by any stretch, but it’s a beautiful melting pot that has something for everyone.
@DannyParkins two more things: Get donuts from a local shop, NOT A CHAIN. If they don’t serve Thai Iced Tea, leave. Dad’s Donuts or The Donut Hut in Burbank are my picks. Also, in Burbank, if you are a car guy, locals drive their vintage cars to Bob’s big boy on Friday nights to hang out.
@DannyParkins Apparently none of the people responding to you have any clue about LA or what natives actually recommend. Santa Monica Pier? You’re joking, right? The only correct response is “where in LA are you staying?” because your location completely changes the recommendations. (1/-)
@DannyParkins But really, LA has whatever you’re into — boutique or retro/vintage shopping, beaches, parks, hikes, etc. You just have to ask around. Oh, 3 more places— get a sausage and beer at Red Lion in Silverlake, a reservation at Musso and Franks, and an invitation to the Magic Castle.
@DannyParkins Broken Compass — A fun tiki bar with great drinks. Scum and Villainy — a nerdy bar in Hollywood owned by another Chicago area transplant. Tourist stuff, I mean, sure go to the Chinese Theater if you love old Hollywood. And go to a Jimmy Kimmel taping across the street. (4/-)
@DannyParkins Dodgers games are fun and expensive, so if you have to buy tickets get them literally last minute from Seat Geek when prices crash. I like to golf in Pasadena or Alhambra; there’s also some fun mountain courses up in Porter Ranch/Thousand Oaks. Wife loves the Academy museum. (3/-
@DannyParkins Background - Chicago transplant; lived in the SFV for 23 years. Yes, In n Out is worth a meal because it’s good and everyone back east will ask if you had it. Get the baked goods at Porto’s, the tacos at Guisados, French dip at Philippe’s and the burger at Petit Trios. (2/-)
@Brett_A_Taylor And yes, my Dodger friends will grudgingly acknowledge the LA stereotypes that PCA loves to harp on, and admit that, yeah, while they're true they've also gotten to witness 3 rings in the past 5 years.
@Brett_A_Taylor I live in LA and know a ton of diehard Dodgers fans. With that said, at the game on Friday night, three fans standing with their backs to to the field desperately tried to get The Wave started. On the field level. In the 8th. In a tied game. No one told them to sit down.
@DJKeenstar@cody__cubs We were in the 400s (now 300s) behind the 3B bag. The only time the stands were truly swaying. It felt like the deck was gonna collapse.
@cody__cubs Totally get it. I got very lucky because teenage me signed up for the season ticket waiting list in the late 90s and my number was called before the 2015 season. So my father and I had tickets in 15 to 17 after he retired and before I had kids. Talk about great timing.
@midwestern_ope As a midwest ex-pat now living in SoCal I have to tell you this is the prevailing thought amongst Californians when they get insulted by the rest of the country:
@DanClarkSports Simplest explanation: If the adjustments he’s made the last two months translate to a decently above average hitter (say a 120ish OPS+) he will be worth 2-3 WAR with the bat to go along with 3-4 WAR with his speed + top 3 in the league defense, thus making him a 5-7 WAR player.
@Bmore_Sports8 Sure, .000 AVG sounds bad, BUT Ryan McKenna could then get hit in the head with a pitch with the bases loaded and win the game for the Powerpl—I mean, Orioles.
