Greek ποταμός “river” has an unclear etymology. The root is *peth2- “spread, fly” > “fall” but the semantic route is murky.
Yet, compare διι-πετ-ής “fallen from heaven/Zeus”, a Homeric epithet of rivers. A common Indo-European trope is that waters fall from a heavenly reservoir
@vaizki@IzzatStatus of course I mean "pick an integer between 1 and 384 as opposed to between 0 and 2³⁸⁴−1", which is different from randomly getting a number between 1 and 384 from a 384-bit random number generator
since I wrote that is what the OP said, you can always check the OP
@IzzatStatus yeah of course, but that's relevant only if they used "industry-grade" toolchain, in which case the whole ordeal would not have happened
also, "industry-grade" tool won't pick an integer between 1 and 384, and that's what your original tweet said
@IzzatStatus what part of "truncated the key at the first non-hexadecimal character" do you not understand?
there are two popular hexadecimal formats, just plain digits (89ab...) and digits with byte delimiters (89:AB:...), and a mismatch of expected and actual input can result in truncation
