Vandals In Paradise Edition

Edward Gibbon wrote in his classic "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" (1788) about the Germanic Vandal tribes after they'd invaded and sacked Rome and settled in the pleasant former Roman provinces of North Africa:

"In three generations, prosperity and a warm climate had dissolved the hardy virtue of the Vandals, who insensibly became the most luxurious of mankind. In their villas and gardens, which might deserve the Persian name of Paradise, they enjoyed a cool and elegant repose; and, after the daily use of the bath, the Barbarians were seated at a table profusely spread with the delicacies of the land and sea. Their silken robes loosely flowing, after the fashion of the Medes, were embroidered with gold; love and hunting were the labours of their life, and their vacant hours were amused by pantomimes, chariot-races, and the music and dances of the theatre."

These once great warriors that helped to end a thousand year empire subsequently lost in their first battle against a resurgent Eastern Roman Empire and their general Belisarius. Their defeat was total and within a generation the Vandals were dissipated within the Eastern Roman Empire either as slaves or servants, and ceased to exist as a coherent people, disappearing from the pages of history.

This is a salutary lesson for the West in the present day. Since WWII we have enjoyed luxury and a standard of living that our forebears could have but dreamed of. Coupled with no major war for over 80 years, and the decadence of the cult of Liberalism, and you have the classic setup for a culture that has become so soft that it risks being wiped out entirely.

I don't need to remind you of those threats, you know what they are. I'd just thought I'd share this echo from history to suggest how we got here.

34-year-old Katie Fox, the woman stabbed in the neck in Birmingham last Friday, has now died in hospital.

Djeison Rafael has been charged with her murder.

This follows 19-year-old Lily Whitehouse being stabbed to death in Oldbury two days earlier.

Mohammed Azim was charged with her murder. He is allegedly the same Mohammed Azim who previously served an 11-year sentence for manslaughter, and sentenced to 16 years in prison for three rapes in 2013.

Every day, one of our wives, daughters, sisters, and mothers is murdered and raped by men who never needed to be here in the first place.

If ever there was a popular actor whose most famous role was diametrically opposite to his own life , surely it was Arnold Ridley. He became famous and very popular for playing Private Godfrey in the hugely popular tv series Dads Army. His character of Godfrey was elderly, doddery, kind, polite, mildly incontinent and a conscientious objector.
But Mr Ridley's life could not have been more different. Born in 1896 he tried to enlist at the outbreak of WW1 in 1914 but was turned away because of a hammer toe. But he was accepted by the Somerset Light infantry in 1915 and sent to the Western Front.

In the space of a year he saw much hand to hand fighting in the trenches He was stabbed in the groin with a bayonet and his legs were riddled with shrapnel. In 1916 at the Battle of the Somme his left hand was rendered forever almost unusable by another bayonet wound , at the same time he was smashed in the head by a German rifle butt which left a legacy of blackouts. He was then medically discharged that year.

He rejoined the army in 1939 as a 2nd Lt, his job was looking after journalists in France attached to the BEF, was evacuated on an overcrowded warship during Dunkirk operations from Boulougne. But by now his WW1 wounds were catching him up and he left the army on medical grounds in 1940.

He immediately joined the Home Guard in Caterham! He did of course go on to write The Ghost Train.

Arnold Ridley passed away in 1984. A true hero who gave so much to our country. R.I.P.

A few weeks ago I was on 288 followers until I decided to start uniting and conversing with like minded @RestoreBritain supporters. I've been helped to this point and I try to help and repost when I can. It's so satisfying to see so many emboldened, activated patriotic everymen and everywomen starting to find their voice.

This has been a wonderful movement to be a part of so far but there are tougher times ahead of us still. That's why this "linking of arms" on X is so important in our infancy as we start to band together digitally.

The people already on the ground for Restore are true pioneers leading the way for the rest of us and should be commended. The next step for many of us will be when we have to start campaigning and canvassing which is what we must all be preparing to do. For many of us this will be a new experience but if we don't come out of our comfort zones and make our voices and votes heard we will lose this country. Thanks for everyone's effort and support so far, let's keep it going but there is much more still to do before Britain can be restored🇬🇧 We are only just getting started💪🇬🇧
