What first attracted Reform UK to the £24M it got from oil and gas interests, and to GB News, owned by billionaire Paul Marshall, whose hedge-fund has £2.1 billion invested in fossil fuel firms?

Reform's Nigel Farage recently shared an Instagram video, saying “The hysteria, we're being told that if we leave our houses we'll all be dead, is just nonsense. Be sensible and enjoy the lovely weather.”

The multimillionaire former Commodities Trader in the City of London and by far the highest earning MP, who was privatey educated at Dulwich College, one of the most elite establishment institutions on earth, described net zero as “a political elite project disconnected from voters”.

Reform's shameless multimillionaire liar Richard Tice has falsely claimed “Man-made climate change is garbage”, there's “no evidence” that CO₂ drives it, and has described CO₂ as “plant food,” not a pollutant.

Reform's dribbling idiot Andrea Jenkyns stated during a heatwave/drought period, “Do I believe that climate change exists? No.” She has also described climate change as a “money-making racket” - which is, funnily enough, precisely what Reform UK is for all the ex-Tories in it.

Reform's particularly stupid bigoted adolescent odd weirdo and former Labour and Tory MP, Lee Anderson, said “Climate Change. It's been happening for millions of years”, and only “odd weirdos” care about decarbonisation.

Reform's unelected son of immigrants multimillionaire Muhammed Zia Yusuf argued in a GB News discussion that: “If there's one thing [the British way of life] is not under threat from, it's climate change.”

Reform's failed parliamentary candidate, out-of-touch, morally righteous self-serving elite and regular GB News presenter, Matt Goodwin, having swallowed Steve Bannon's 'anti-woke' dictionary, described net zero as “a pet project among an out-of-touch, morally righteous and self-serving elite.”

A 2026 policy brief from the London School of Economics' Grantham Research Institute found multiple Reform-controlled councils and councillors using language that questioned or rejected human-caused climate change.

The hedge fund run by GB News co-owner Paul Marshall, which employs Farage and Lee Anderson and regular platforms Matt Goodwin, Danny Kruger, Zia Yusuf and other senior Reform UK figures, almost tripled its investments in fossil fuel companies in the first quarter of 2026 to £2.1 billion.

Finally, Reform supporters are, on average, older and less likely to have university-level qualifications than supporters of Labour, the LibDems or the Greens. Older people are also among those most vulnerable to extreme heat, and are less likely to engage with more reliable, serious, and less partisan news media.

Correlation is not causation, but polling shows a striking divide in attitudes towards climate policy: support for achieving net zero by 2050 or sooner is highest among Green supporters (89%), followed by LibDems (81%), Labour (79%), Conservatives (53%) and Reform UK supporters (26%).

Reform voters are therefore a clear outlier: only around one quarter support maintaining the UK's current net-zero trajectory, and a significant majority favour slowing or even reducing climate action.

A British surgeon who treated dying and injured children in Gaza says his evidence of war crimes was ignored by Keir Starmer.

Professor Nick Maynard talks to us about his experiences, including how he had to watch babies starve to death after Israel’s deliberate blockade of food, and how Starmer skipped meetings with him and other doctors who had worked in Gaza amid the ongoing genocide.

HE CAUGHT THE NHS FAKING ITS NUMBERS

Ian Perkin spent 12 years as finance director at St George's Healthcare NHS Trust, now St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (@StGeorgesTrust).

In 2002 he did something wildly reckless for an NHS finance chief. He told the truth.

Perkin said operation cancellation figures had been quietly massaged to hit NHS targets. He also told auditors at PwC (@PwC_UK) the trust's real financial position was far worse than management wanted anyone to know.

Three days after St George's missed out on the coveted three star hospital rating, he was called into a meeting and asked to resign.

He said no. He was suspended within days, then sacked. The trust's official line was an intimidating management style.

Nothing to do with the falsified figures. Definitely nothing to do with the finances. Just, apparently, a vibe problem.

Perkin took it to an employment tribunal. In January 2004, after 15 days of hearings, the tribunal ruled he had been unfairly dismissed.

A win, on paper.

Then came the fine print. The tribunal said the unfairness was procedural, the disciplinary chair was not independent, and had nothing to do with his whistleblowing claims. It then found there was a 100 percent chance he would have been sacked anyway under a fair process, and that he himself had contributed 100 percent to his own downfall.

Compensation followed accordingly. None.

He appealed. The Employment Appeal Tribunal rejected it in 2004. He appealed again. Three Court of Appeal judges rejected that too, in October 2005.

By 2006 he was asking the House of Lords to hear him and warning he would take it to Europe next.

He told Public Finance magazine (@public_finance_) he would never again encourage NHS staff to report wrongdoing, because the system just brushes it under the carpet.

Twelve years of service. One accurate report. A courtroom victory that paid him nothing.

This is what institutional accountability looks like when the institution marks its own homework.

ROBBIE DIED. THE DOCTORS LIED

A boy died. The doctors who missed it were allowed to lie about what happened. That was legal. Not against the rules. Legal.

Robbie Powell was 10. In 1990 he got sick with something called Addison's disease. It is easy to treat if you catch it. Doctors suspected it. They had a simple test that would have proven it. They never ran the test. Robbie died.

His parents, Will (@willcpowell) and Diane Powell, just wanted the truth. What happened to our son. That is all they asked for. Instead they got denial, missing paperwork, and years of being told to go away.

In 1996 they were offered money to drop it. About £300,000. They were broke. Living on benefits. They had remortgaged their house just to pay lawyers. They said no. They wanted the truth more than the cash.

So they kept fighting. High Court. Court of Appeal. House of Lords. Then Europe's top human rights court. In 2000 that court said something most people still cannot believe. Doctors had no legal duty to tell parents the truth after a child's death. No duty to avoid faking the medical records either. Commentators at the time had a name for it. A doctor's right to lie.

Imagine this. A child died. Doctors suspected the cause and never checked it. And the highest human rights court in Europe said the law did nothing to stop them lying about it afterward.

In 1999 a parliamentary committee looked at Robbie's case and said the law needed to change. They called for a legal duty to tell the truth (Duty of Candour). The Government said no. It took another huge scandal, Mid Staffordshire, and a public inquiry in 2013, to finally get that law passed in 2014. Fifteen years after the warning was first given.

And even that law has a hole in it. It applies to hospitals, not to the individual doctor standing in the room with you. A hospital can look honest on paper while the person who made the actual decision owes you nothing.

In 2003 prosecutors found evidence that doctors in Robbie's case had been negligent, maybe grossly negligent, maybe involved in faking records. Nobody was charged. Too much time had passed, they said. Time that passed largely because nobody would investigate properly in the first place. Will Powell finally got a formal apology from the head of the prosecution service. That came in late 2024. 34 years after Robbie died.

In 2019 the Powells found their other son Ian dead in his flat. He was 41. The family believes the years of cover up and grief around Robbie's death drove him to drink himself to death too.

There is still no legal duty for individual doctors and nurses to tell patients the truth in this country. Will Powell is still fighting for one. 35 years and counting.

Robbie Powell's name should be the first thing anyone mentions when they talk about honesty in healthcare.
