Israeli strikes killed journalist Amal Khalil in the southern Lebanese town of at-Tiri on Wednesday after she reportedly took shelter inside a house from an earlier drone strike.

Khalil, a correspondent for Al-Akhbar, had reportedly shared her location with colleagues, the International Committee of the Red Cross, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, and Lebanese authorities while seeking safety.

In a video report from Beirut, journalist Courtney Bonneau said Khalil was “executed in a targeted airstrike” and described the incident as an assassination, saying, “This was a blatant murder. This was a targeted assassination.”

She also said that Israeli forces fired live ammunition and stun grenades at Red Cross teams attempting to reach the site, preventing rescue efforts.

@eleanoir This clarifies something for me. I enjoyed some of her video essays when I was younger, but in retrospect she regularly avoided taking political positions that didn’t acquiesce to the status quo. She would conclude with a cosmopolitan love of “complicated reflection.”
