@castlecrasherzs @kurrrto well, first of all, if you can draw, you can easily modify AI outputs to "aim higher". but beyond that, the artist is really the only one that can decide the degree to which a selected input aligns with their artistic intent. a musician sometimes finds the perfect sample.

@castlecrasherzs @kurrrto all you can do, as an artist, is curate your own outputs. your ideas will not always align with your vision, but you curate them according to an ideal. if you select a piece of AI artwork that perfectly expresses your intent... well, it's just like sampling really.

@castlecrasherzs @kurrrto let's say a musician is trying to get a certain piano sound. they adjust the tuning, try different fingerings, and eventually pluck the strings directly. this sounds right to them, so they begin recording. this is the artistic process in miniature. creation is curation.

@tastinginkk @JamieVortexVT neural nets are proven to produce novel outputs, all they did was show it an incomprehensible amount of images to teach it to draw. likening that to stealing is ludicrous, you can't steal from everyone at once, and the work is distinct.

@maelynn6767 @sleepy_shivers @kurrrto humans also learn directly off other artists works. and there are ways to use it for good, like an artist deploying it to improve their workflow. i think your impression that AI can't do original work is belied by ai slop itself. it may be awful, but you've never seen it before.

@Trandlesnatch i'm trying to understand your perspective. you think i'm satanspawn, fine, but what exactly is so wrong with an artist using a labor-saving tool to achieve the same result they would've otherwise? is it a problem that digital painters don't mix their own inks?

@ThatGetReal @HaGoshem @snakesandrews you hate it because you associate it with power and money and tech bros and elon musk. all those things are awful but at the end of the day it"s just a piece of technology, its use brings no inherent harm to anyone. and in the hands of an artist it can do amazing things.

@sleepy_shivers @kurrrto the work generated by AI bears no greater similarity to other art than that of humans -- everything creative is derivative to a great degree. and if the work is indistinguishable from what he would've done unassisted, why ask him to perform extra labor to produce it?

@akaihomixide I'm on his side here, I think. I don't understand why we've put a total embargo on this tool -- if it's used to produce bad work or replace somebody that's one thing. But it's used at an artist's direction to do work indistinguishable from their own, what's the problem?

@TheRedGoner @arrowtongue i mean you do objectively do this -- when you suspend disbelief you have emotional attachment to characters, then you play geno bc you want more of them and that desire for more forces you not to care about them. i think this is interesting, not bad. i think toby feels the same.

@TheRedGoner @arrowtongue No, he's pointing out that you're conflating the game's perspective with Sans' (maybe Chara's) perspective. Toby isn't declaring you unvirtuous, he's exploring the way you'll destroy your own emotional attachment to fictional characters out of a perverse love, a desire for more.

@awesom_saus i think the idea of an in-universe video game character having terrifying visions where they see their world from the perspective of the player is interesting. kris drawing this. the top down angle we see things from being inherently demonic to them.
