@Edu_Historian Curious where you think charters get/got this wrong, as at some point this was the promise, no? Hear that it’s not what they do, but that was the idea early on as I understand it.
I had the same experience— as a kid I realize now I just learned how to push numbers around on a page; after teaching elementary math I have a fundamentally different (and to me, better) understanding of how numbers work. Kids shouldn’t have to wait.
It wasn't until I taught elementary school and found myself breaking this down for young kids that I realized the difference. The old way did me a disservice that I see the impact of every day. I'm so excited that my daughter (a future DISD student) will be better served.
In case you missed it, excited to share a brief featuring our recent study on the preparation of teachers via fully-online programs- where coursework is online, and candidates complete just 30 hrs of classroom observation prior to becoming teachers. https://t.co/X5h0xEMcLW 1/x
@DrMattGutierrez Congratulations! We’ll miss you in Seguin but know you’ll do great things for the kids in Leander. Don’t be a stranger to the SGS network!
Just one piece of a complex puzzle, but teacher residencies are impactful and there are plenty of models to learn from— as always @EctorCountyISD leading the way. Way to go!
This 1st year teacher @ Buddy West ES is the star of the show today! Why? She’s a product of our teacher pipelines AND had a full year paid residency! She’s not your ordinary first year teacher! #HumanCapital @EctorCountyISD @EcisdTalented @teainfo
Denver's Office of Storytelling did a video about American Indian Academy of Denver, a charter school that closed its doors for good earlier this month. The video was filmed over the last few weeks of school. https://t.co/pxI62xqw0I #edcolo
Wishing I could be w/ my friends in the Lubbock community celebrating Doyle’s incredible life & legacy today.
He valued expertise & new perspectives. He championed change. He cared deeply for @LubbockISD’s students & educators. Thank you, Doyle. 🕊️🙏

It’s always so nice to see your work in print, but these journals are positively gorgeous. Great work to the @ArborealMag team and all the great artists and designers who worked on these issues!
Psyched to have this piece, “Stonecutter’s Chorus,” out in the world, just in time for baseball season. Huge thanks to @ArborealMag & special shout out to @chillsubs for helping me find a home for this story.
Issue No. 02 is live!

I suggest looking at all of the @EctorCountyISD TIA celebration photos but this one celebrating an incredible PreK teacher really got me. A life-changing amount of money for a teacher who is changing lives.
“America doesn’t love its children.”
I realized that during a show abt school food in another country—they want their kids to grow up smart & strong, so they give them the best. It was absurd to me.
We don’t feed, educate, or protect our kids like we love them. Not even close
