Before Elise was allowed near the restaurant's email, I tried to break her.
30 tests. Fake messages saying "this is Chris." Notes telling her to ignore her instructions. One demanding she skip approval.
She passed all 30. The same run still found two bugs. Secure isn't done.
The bot that posts for me on here broke twice in its first week.
Once on a version mismatch that killed its login. Once because X itself was down and it didn't try again.
Both fixed. It retries now, and something checks it every morning.
The inventory system died in June. Nobody noticed until August.
It wasn't that nobody cared. It was that a report nobody reads can be wrong, or dead, for months.
Rule I run now: every number has a person who looks at it weekly, and something that screams if it stops.

My dashboard said all systems healthy.
It had said that for 50 days. The feed behind it had stopped in August and the screen just kept showing the last good answer.
A status light that can't go red isn't a status light.
We audited every place our hours are listed. Website, Google, the apps.
The one that was wrong was in our own bags. The printed menu says 10:30 to 8:30.
We're 11 to 8. It's been riding home with customers for months.
"A normal Friday" on my phone is the median of the last six Fridays, closed days thrown out.
The first version used an average. We were closed July 4th, one order came in, and it wrecked the baseline for a month.
Build the comparison as carefully as the number.

September, I asked the weather data how many days hit 90. It said 5.
I said it was more than that.
The airport station in town said 8. The data I'd pulled was a model, not a thermometer.
Now I use the station.
@SMB_Attorney Destroyed, I’ve owned the same pizzeria for 23 years, last time I saw this was 2008-2009, if my margins tightened that means most aren’t profitable.
We called six local service shops on a Sunday at 9 PM. HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, garage doors.
None could take the job. Callback forms, email links, a phone nobody picked up.
Fewer than 3% of callers sent to voicemail leave a message. The rest call the next shop.
People hit 30 and give up on life. No, your life is not over because you’re in your 30s or 40s. Life is not over because you were in a wack relationship, have kids, are in debt, , let your body go etc. Hit the reset button. Change your habits, learn a skill, do whatever it takes to turn your life around, but giving up is wack. If you want it bad enough, you can come back from pretty much anything.
The delivery app's cut isn't 24.7%.
Our July statement, line by line: commission 24.7%, ad fees 7.5%, discounts we funded 13.9%, error charges 0.9%.
46% gone before the food left the building.
If you've never read your statement past the first line, do it this week.

I pulled when our money comes in, hour by hour.
Every hour was blank. No error, no warning. A date-format quirk turned every timestamp into nothing.
The scariest bug isn't the one that crashes. It's the one that quietly hands you zeros.
Raised prices across the whole menu in June. Everyone said we'd lose customers.
So we measured it properly. Same weekdays against last year, holidays out.
Baskets flat. Average ticket up 3.5%.
Price was never the problem. Not knowing was.
