My MDiv had a lot more hours in it. I understand the market pressures. I'm not blaming anyone.
But who do I feel sorry for? Not me. I feel sorry for the people getting MiniDivs.
We have incredible freedom musically as Christians. We can sing ancient songs, Reformation hynns, Victorian hymns, praise songs, modern worship songs, modern hymns, and a whole lot more besides.
There is no one era or style that is the perfect era. Breathe free air, Christian!
J.R.R. Tolkien was a linguist (spoke ~15 languages), conlanger (created ~15 more of his own), soldier, professor, and father of modern fantasy.
But most don't know he was also a master illustrator — he made these for The Hobbit... 🧵
When I was in seminary, few professors were as influential on my thinking as Dr. Wellum. When I heard that he’d be writing a systematic theology, I was thrilled. It comes out this week. Take up and read!

The symbols in nativity scenes often point to Biblical truths.
1) Ox & Ass = all creation receiving peace from the new king / Jews and Gentiles
2) Cave = place of protection & foreshadowing his death
3) three wise men = all nations (Asia, Africa, and Europe)
“The ordinate frame of mind is one of the blessings we must pray for, not a fancy-dress we must put on when we pray…. We must not be too high-minded. I fancy we may sometimes be deterred from small prayers by a sense of our own dignity rather than of God's.” Lewis
“We, belated rootless readers, can learn only through marginalia and concordances- like novice guitarists learning blues riffs from sheet music--what Paul knew by heart”
Richard Hays, “Echoes of Scripture in the Letters of Paul” (43)
“Though they must be distinguished, Christ nevertheless contains both of them inseparably. Would we receive righteousness in Christ? We must first possess him. But we cannot possess him without sharing in sanctification, since he cannot be divided into separate pieces.” Calvin
During World War II, Steinway & Sons air-dropped pianos with large parachutes and complete tuning instructions into the battle for the American troops.
Called the Victory Vertical or G.I. Steinway, the pianos were to provide a bit of relaxation/morale booster. The pianos came in olive, blue, and gray drab.
By the war's end, Steinway & Sons had provided about 5,000 pianos to the U.S. military worldwide.
Their scepticism about values is on the surface: it is for use on other people's values; about the values current in their own set they are not nearly skeptical enough. And this phenomenon is very usual.”
Lewis, “The Abolition of Man”
@Jaime_E_Owens First, “Worship by the Book” ed. by Carson for his first chapter with a nuanced definition of worship.
Second, “Engaging with God” by Peterson for a biblical theology of worship.
Third, “Worship Matters” by @bkauflin for tons of practical help rooted in love for sound doctrine
"She won't turn him into stone too?" said Edmund.
"Lord love you, Son of Adam, what a simple thing to say!" answered Mr. Beaver with a great laugh. "Turn him into stone? If she can stand on her two feet and look him in the face it'll be the most she can do”
@Alex_DiPrima If it’s aiming to be a comprehensive biography, I prefer the simple title.
If it’s aiming to explore a particular angle or aspect of the subject’s life, I prefer the title to reflect that angle.
Last night we gathered with new friends and old to celebrate what God has done through NETS and pray for what he might be pleased to do in the future. Pray that God would call gospel preachers to lay down their lives for Christ’s church in New England and beyond!
