On October 26, 1996, a brave group of intersex people, backed by transgender allies, demonstrated for the first time against the harms, including nonconsensual surgeries, they’d experienced from doctors.
This was declared the first #IntersexAwarenessDay.

Jacksonville’s Five Points neighborhood has unveiled a 1,700-square-foot rainbow mural celebrating the area’s LGBTQ+ community and history, created in response to the removal of rainbow crosswalks in the same area. The mural sits on a building wall between the former rainbow crosswalks, bringing the rainbow artwork back to the neighborhood. Mural artist Shaun Thurston said, “If you are going to cover up the rainbows that make people feel seen, I will just do bigger rainbows.” #NOH8

Thunderhead, Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ National Monument, officially opened in Ottawa on Friday. The monument highlights the history of discrimination and persecution faced by the community, including the thousands targeted during the LGBT Purge. Inspired by the symbolism of a thunderhead cloud, it features a mirrored cloud form and thousands of reflective tiles. The surrounding site includes a healing circle with 13 stones hand-picked by Two-Spirit Elders from each province and territory, along with spaces for reflection, gathering and celebration #NOH8
It’s true. People who live in the city know it’s true. I know it’s true.
Unfortunately provincial politicians from Brampton who only view and understand the city through a windshield are currently having an outsized impact on our future (tearing up Ontario Place, removing our well used bike lanes, taking away planning authority). We fought against their ill-conceived Billy Bishop expansion (that can only be explained as designed to make New York bankers happy) and we won. But we are still losing the future on other fronts.
Everyone who loves this city and wants it to continue to thrive needs to step up. And fight for it. They are coming after the golden goose.
