.@AndrewmitchMP “is absolutely right to condemn not only the armed conflict between the SAF & RSF…but also to highlight the deliberate targeting & mass displacement of non-Arab communities”

It's hard to believe that it's been fifteen years since we started the Sentinel Project. Turning an idea into a real organization and sustaining it for all that time hasn’t been easy but we've come a long way and it’s remarkable to look back on what our team has done.
Today we mark fifteen years since the Sentinel Project's founding on August 8th, 2008. Working to prevent atrocities, the Sentinel Project has assisted more than 2 million people across South Sudan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Long-term commitment and clarity over priorities: @ctuckwood, Executive Director of our partner @SentinelProject, highlighted how #Canada could better lead in #AtrocityPrevention. Read more about his + @savita_pawnday & @kylecmatthews's recommendations: https://t.co/XvIjSjNBqz
@CanadaDRC - The email address listed for submitting CFLI applications is currently rejecting messages because the inbox is full. The deadline is today so how are people supposed to apply?
We are excited to share that our misinformation management project in #DRCongo, Kijiji Cha Amani, was selected as 1 of 6 projects from across the world to be supported by a grant from @OIFrancophonie this year.

This article highlights some of the factors involved in the escalating violence in eastern #DRCongo, with the exploitation of inter-ethnic tensions by M23 rebels playing a key role, as explained by @hrw.

Here is a photo of one of the #IDP camps near the town of Sake, #NorthKivu province of #DRCongo. The worsening conflict between rebels and government forces is causing mass displacement as people flee their homes.
"Why has peace eluded South Sudan?"
Check out this recent article that helps explain why the peace process in South Sudan has not made much progress:

Today is #HolocaustMemorialDay. Lessons from the Holocaust helped to inspire our mission and we strive to honour that legacy every day through our efforts to assist people threatened by mass atrocities around the world.
Three of the countries that we work in, #Kenya, #DRCongo, and #SouthSudan, are on @UNOCHA's list of 11 crises to watch in 2023 in addition to #Ukraine️.

Last year, we visited Camp Kanyaruchinya during our field visit to #DRCongo. The population has since grown even larger, with hundreds of thousands of people displaced. This camp hasn't made the news cycle much, but we should be concerned about escalating violence in #DRCongo.
I'm really looking forward to this event tomorrow. It's always important to remember people who did the right thing in the face of genocide, such as Raoul Wallenberg, especially since their actions helped to inspire the work that the @SentinelProject does.
Join us NEXT WEEK (Jan. 17) for a special #event marking #RaoulWallenberg Day hosted by @SwedeninCAN in partnership with @OVEDCanada.
Virtual discussion moderated by @LindaFrum with remarks by @IrwinCotler and other distinguished guests.

I'm really looking forward to participating in this important event about a topic that doesn't receive nearly enough attention. The @SentinelProject project team is looking forward to sharing our ideas about what the future of early warning should like.
On December 13th at 9:30 AM EST, @mstem will be sharing insights from his global review of organizations working against digital disinformation.

Our East Africa programs manager @johngreenotunga recently had the chance to meet Michael Upton, the NZ high commissioner to Kenya, w/ 2 coordinators from our @UnaHakika project.
This year, @UnaHakika was the fortunate recipient of 2 grants from the NZ high commission.
