If I had wanted a Truth Social account, I would have made a Truth Social account. If *anyone* had wanted a Truth Social account, the trolls wouldn't have tried to buy an audience. He didn't buy me though: I'm out. He didn't buy you either: don't let him convince you that he did
The party will move somewhere else. The very very short history of our collective experiment with social media is littered with dead platforms you barely remember that were The Big important Thing at the time
If I had wanted a Truth Social account, I would have made a Truth Social account. If *anyone* had wanted a Truth Social account, the trolls wouldn't have tried to buy an audience. He didn't buy me though: I'm out. He didn't buy you either: don't let him convince you that he did
@tkarlo@ibogost If you want to get back to more levers, fancy footwork, and spending attention on things like the temperature of the engine and every little sound it's making: you can learn to fly small airplanes
@ibogost I would rather read than listen, so the podcast has to be really well produced to hook me, but I will just sit in a comfortable chair and listen to episodes of throughline
This #WorldRefugeeDay is a reminder that seeking asylum is a right, regardless of the country of origin.
Everyone has the right to seek safety.
With 100 million people displaced, there is no excuse for inaction.
Stand #WithRefugees @RESCUEorg
@mcmillen I don't know if you need to assume ill intent here: every time CDC puts out recommendations aren't dirt simple, everyone's brains melt and there's a news cycle about how confusing it was for everyone
@MaggieEThornton I think it's simply that special ed funding gets legal protection in some places while gifted ed does not, so people try to insert themselves into that funding stream
@tkarlo@danluu As someone who managed a part time worker I was very nervous about them taking a pay cut but then ending up essentially working full time again anyway after six months or a year. It takes significant discipline and maturity not to fall into that trap, given the culture
@tkarlo@danluu I'd like to know how many googlers actually work a 100% week anyway, rather than an 80-90 hour week. I think as an industry we have a lot of work to do just to get to the norm that people should be paid 100% for an actual 40 hour a week (esp after years of pandemic wfh)
@mcmillen The version I got was: take a bunch of photos of tanks in fields and forests, roll tanks away, take pictures of fields and forests without tanks, learn the difference between morning photos and afternoon photos
@Abebab I was taught (25 years ago!) the example of tanks in the morning and no tanks in the afternoon, but was later told that the story was apocryphal, so it's nice to have some documented examples
@BarmanNYC I rode to work in all seasons in Boston for years but finally quit after the second ghost bike appeared along my route, not to mention my own incidents resulting in a concussion (car ran a red) and a broken finger (dodging a ped emerging from between parked cars)
