Where is the outcry? Where are the public hearings?
The single biggest frustration of practicing physicians, one of the biggest drivers of burnout, is awful EHR.
One of the biggest obstacles to improvement in quality is one person.
With the market dominated by a few large entities, it is similar to the airlines before deregulation: expensive and unfriendly to consumers.
Those established corporations will fight tooth and nail against any changes that would allow more competition, such as improving interoperability.
Patients and physicians must demand better. When the doctor is glued to the computer screen instead of talking to the patient, that is because we have an inefficient EHR product without interoperability.
Congress, @OIGatHHS and @FTC should investigate the failures of modern EHR.
