The statement by the @ArtsakhUnion as a leading community grassroots organization of the Nagorno-Karabakh people:

The Artsakh Union expresses its deep concern over the agenda of today’s trilateral meeting in Washington between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States, and in particular over the absolute disregard for and violation of the rights of the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), who have been subjected to genocide and forcible deprivation of their homeland.
Of course, reaching a negotiated agreement on certain conflict-related issues under the guarantee of the leading global power can, in itself, be considered progress. However, this cannot be done at the expense of other fundamental issues and the primary victims’ essential rights.
According to information available in the public domain, the meeting’s agenda does not include issues related to Artsakh and its people — for example: the safe, collective and dignified return of the people of Artsakh; the introduction and implementation of mechanisms for the protection of Artsakh’s cultural heritage, as well as private and public property; the release of all 23 Armenian captives held in Baku; and so on. It would be both logical and morally appropriate for at least the issue of the captives’ return to be resolved as a necessary humanitarian step toward peace.
Equally concerning are reports about the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, established to resolve the Artsakh conflict — a major diplomatic defeat for Armenia’s foreign policy. This institution is the only format having international mandate for the conflict settlement. The fact that the conflict has not yet been resolved is confirmed by numerous international legal acts and norms, according to which a status quo established by force cannot be legitimized. Moreover, it is deeply troubling that the Armenian authorities — who have repeatedly stated their intention to dissolve the Minsk Group upon the signing of a “peace agreement” — are now taking this strategic misstep without any agreement being signed, without the release of the captives and without any other concession from Azerbaijan.
A peace built on the mass violation and neglect of the rights of 150,000 Christian Armenians of Artsakh, on their forced displacement and on their shattered destinies cannot be just and sustainable. Hence, no one desires peace more than the people of Artsakh; however, conflict settlement is not an end in itself. There is a simple truth: no settlement document can be viable if one side receives everything while the other side receives nothing.
The Artsakh Union demands that the Armenian authorities fulfill their commitments toward the people of Artsakh and ensure the protection and restoration of their rights in the process of conflict resolution.
The Artsakh Union also calls on the U.S. authorities, and personally on President Donald Trump, not to ignore the essence and causes of the conflict and, as the chief guarantor of the world order, a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group, to ensure: the return of the people of Artsakh to their homeland; the protection of cultural heritage and public and private property; the immediate release of Armenian captives; the return of the Armenian occupied territories and the eradication of the policy of anti-Armenian hatred in Azerbaijan. Without effectively addressing these and certain other elements of the conflict, no lasting and comprehensive peace can be achieved in the South Caucasus.

Today, 87 U.S. Representatives from 24 states – representing over 66 million Americans – called on the Trump-Vance Administration to support the collective and protected return of forcibly displaced Armenians to their indigenous homeland of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), in line with international law and in support of just and lasting peace in the South Caucasus, reports the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA). This powerful bipartisan Congressional call reflects growing consensus across party lines for justice and accountability in the region.

“This bipartisan Congressional letter sends the Administration a clear message: Any path to real regional peace needs to start with the collective, protected return of Armenians to Artsakh – certainly not the normalization of Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of indigenous Christians from their ancient homeland,” stated ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. “Armenian American voters and our many allies are grateful to the Armenian Caucus leadership and every Member of Congress who stood up today for peace and justice – a message backed by international law and rooted in human rights.”

In their letter, led by Congressional Armenian Caucus co-chairs Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Brad Sherman (D-CA), and David Valadao (R-CA), lawmakers emphasized: “We urge you to engage all parties in this unresolved conflict to ensure the collective, protected, and dignified return of forcibly displaced Armenians to their indigenous homeland of Nagorno Karabakh. Taking this action is in direct accordance with international law and in pursuit of a just and lasting peace in the region.”

The letter documents the consequences of Azerbaijan’s 2023 blockade and military assault on Artsakh, which “forcibly displaced the region’s entire Christian Armenian population of 120,000 people.” It further details how, following the assault, Azerbaijan “engaged in the systematic destruction of Christian Armenian cultural heritage sites,” and conducted “the widespread ransacking and demolition of civilian property, and public infrastructure, in an attempt to deny the possibility of return.”

Citing international precedents, the letter states: “The right of populations displaced by war to return to their homes is a fundamental principle of international law.” It also references a 2023 International Court of Justice order compelling Azerbaijan to ensure the safe and secure return of Artsakh’s Armenian population.

The letter specifically urges the Administration to support the Swiss Peace Initiative for Artsakh, a diplomatic measure adopted by the Swiss Parliament to “establish an international negotiation platform to mediate a safe, secure and internationally guaranteed return of Armenians.”

The Swiss initiative was prominently discussed during a standing-room-only Congressional briefing on July 10th, which brought together over 200 Capitol Hill staffers, human rights advocates, and policy experts. The event featured remarks from Swiss Parliamentarians Erich Vontobel and Lukas Reimann, Christian Solidarity International President Dr. John Eibner, and former Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian. Mark Milosch, Republican Staff Director for Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ), the Co-Chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission opened the event and ANCA Policy Director Alex Galitsky moderated a robust question and answer session.

Mr. President,
With deep respect, I must express my sorrow and concern regarding your decision to share a video featuring Ilham Aliyev — one of the most criminal and dictatorial leaders of our time.
Please note the following critical facts:
1. Aliyev has committed genocide and crimes against humanity against the indigenous Christian Armenian people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), culminating in the forcible displacement of over 100,000 people in September 2023 — a process widely recognized as ethnic cleansing.
2. On October 23, 2024, you yourself called these actions “ethnic cleansing” and “forcible displacement,” promising to work to stop them. With that in mind, who do you believe committed those crimes, if not the very man whose video you have now amplified?
3. Aliyev tortures Armenian civilians and prisoners of war simply for their ethnic and religious identity — as documented by independent international organizations. These are not political allegations but well-substantiated human rights violations.
4. Dozens of Armenian churches and monuments have been destroyed, vandalized, or defaced under his orders — a blatant campaign to erase the centuries-old Christian Armenian heritage of the region.
5. Aliyev has publicly stated that Azerbaijani youth should hate Armenians, built a grotesque “trophy park” mocking dead Armenian soldiers, and institutionalized anti-Armenian hatred in schools and public discourse.
6. His forces have not only occupied Artsakh but also sovereign territories of Armenia, while openly threatening new aggression against a peaceful democratic neighbor.
7. On October 26, 2020, Aliyev promised a ceasefire to your administration — only to violate it within hours, undermining your peace efforts during your presidential campaign.
8. The speech you shared was delivered in occupied Shushi — one of the most sacred and historic Armenian cities in Artsakh. For decades, U.S. legislators and administrations have acknowledged the right of its people to self-determination in the area of Nagorno-Karabakh, including Shushi.
Mr. President,
As one of the victims of Aliyev’s genocidal aggression and as a voice for my displaced people, I respectfully urge you: Do not lend legitimacy to a dictator who has inflicted immeasurable suffering and destruction on an ancient Christian nation.
Instead, we ask you to honor your own words — to help stop the violence and ethnic cleansing. Our people continue to hope that the United States, and you personally, will stand on the side of justice, freedom, and truth.
We ask for your support for:
• The safe, dignified, and sustainable return of my people to our homeland,
• The protection of our religious and cultural heritage now under threat,
• The release of Armenian hostages held in Azerbaijani prisons,
• And the eradication of state-sponsored hatred and fascist-style indoctrination in Azerbaijan.
Please don’t let the rhetoric of “peace” from a dictator obscure the real and continuing tragedy of our people.

The 26th session of the judicial farce against @RubenVardanyan_ has continued today at the Baku Military Court.

Last week, Siranush Sahakyan, lawyer and representative of the interests of Armenian prisoners of war in the European Court of Human Rights, published a detailed document outlining all the legal violations committed against Ruben Vardanyan during both the pre-trial investigation and the trial process. “As a result, a fundamentally unjust judicial situation has been created, in which the defense is deprived of any realistic opportunity to challenge the charges or prove their innocence. In such conditions, the very notion of a fair trial turns into a formality devoid of any substance,” Sahakyan emphasized.

The lawyer highlighted that these violations have made it impossible for Ruben Vardanyan to mount an effective defense. “These violations together have created a legal environment where he is effectively deprived of any meaningful opportunity to dispute the accusations or present exculpatory evidence,” the published document states.

The international community and human rights organizations have repeatedly called for the immediate and unconditional release of the Armenian Christian political prisoners and prisoners of war.
