Pritzker’s honest answer would be: “Because after I doubled the motor fuel tax in 2019 and then tied those taxes to inflation, we now have the nation’s 3rd-highest gas taxes. It’s on me.”

He would never send his kid to the high school he graduated from, in the school district where he was a board member for 12 years and the school board president. Proviso TWP HS 209 is a failure factory - and Welch knows it. Even under the new lower standards, only 30% of students are proficient in reading and only 20% are so in Math. Welch is among the most hypocritical politicians in Illinois because he has the power to force the adoption of the new federal tax credit scholarship program, but he won't. And, Welch is also one of the most race-baiting politicians - so why is he sending his kid to a mostly White, Catholic school?
Also, the per student cost for public school at Proviso 209 is over $28,000. The tuition and fees at Nazareth are $19,150. Welch knows the personal cost to send his own child to Nazareth is worth it.
