BREAKING: Removing bike -lanes from busy city streets will increase traffic congestion, according to a government document leaked amid a furious row over urban infrastructure.
The findings undercut claims the dedicated routes contribute to urban gridlock. https://t.co/ukriNqJrEX
An admission of the significant financial and safety costs. The city regularly looks at alternative routes and puts lanes on side streets. Shaw (instead of Ossington), Palmerston (Bathurst), Brunswick (Spadina). Yonge, University and Bloor don't have equivalent options.
This is devastating. If #ONpoli gets someone killed when they rip out #SafeStreets, their family can't sue for directly causing the death. #ONpoli did same thing to protect negligent long term care homes after the mass tragedies, horrific conditions during the pandemic.

In summary, Ford's bike lane removals will, according to a new City Hall report:
- Cost $75 million in direct costs and sunk costs.
- Make traffic much, much worse for at least nine months during construction to remove lanes
- Have minimal long-term impact on car travel times.
City Council should tear up Tory’s budget, open up 24/7 warming centres immediately and declare homelessness a humanitarian crisis. It's time to go way beyond plugging potholes and start permanently fixing Toronto’s structural problems.
Waking home tonight right by City Hall there is a human being sleeping on a grate in this cold/wind. There is nowhere for people to go. We need better solutions in place ASAP to keep people alive in our city.
-Resume masking in school/grocery stores/pharmacies.
-narrow the shot 2->3 gap
-make PCR testing more widely available, advertise inclusion criteria for Paxlovid & make it easier to get
-communicate with the public
None of these actions harm the economy and will save lives.
a reminder: you can both support the people of ukraine and call out the racism/orientalism that values refugees based on the colour of their skin/religion.
