Mark Carney could not be more out of touch.

With Canadians missing meals and mortgage payments, and days before he addresses the European Parliament (instead of the Canadian Parliament) we learn in a foreign newspaper of secret talks to make Canada an "Associate Member" of the European Union.

This is not about diversifying trade: we have had tariff-free trade with Europe for over a decade. They would buy more of our goods today if the Liberal government would get out of the way and permit mines, pipelines, LNG plants to produce and ship them.

Canadians deserve answers: Is the WSJ report true about associate membership in the EU?

If so, will European border policies apply in Canada, further overwhelming our immigration system while our youth can’t find homes?
Will Canadian waitresses struggling with rent have to pay tax dollars to the bloated EU bureaucracy?

Will Canadian small businesses be buried under the red tape of Eurocrats that have never met a Canadian entrepreneur?

All questions I’d ask in Parliament, but it is shuttered.

And one more: who decides for Canada?

The Welland welder did not elect a Eurocrat to regulate our steel. The Saskatchewan farmer and the Atlantic fisherman did not choose a Brussels agrifood regulator that has never even seen our prairies or coasts.

We will NEVER be the 51st U.S. state. And we will NEVER be the 28th EU state.

We are Canadians. This is our home, our freedom, our sovereignty, our people.

Instead of cutting off neighbouring Americans from energy and raw materials, Ontario and Quebec could buy more western Canadian natural gas instead of importing it from Appalachia.
Canada actually built a 14,000km pipeline to carry AB and BC natural gas to the east in the 1950s. Since 2008, eastern Canada has doubled the amount they import from US producers because it became cheaper with the shale revolution.
The TC Mainline pipeline has more capacity available and could transport more western Canadian gas, but it would raise energy costs out East. Still, a logical place to put our money where our mouth is.

As smoke from Canadian wildfires blanketed parts of North America, much of the commentary portrayed it as evidence of an escalating climate crisis.

But the latest data tell a very different story:

By August 12, North America was at a record-low burn. Indeed, the world has burned unprecedentedly little, and is on track for the lowest burn in a century.

Politicians defend supply management like owners of an aging house who keep repainting the exterior while refusing to inspect the foundation. Some do not understand the structural problems; others see the cracks but know repairs would be politically difficult.

Anyone suggesting renovations is accused of wanting to demolish the house. Eventually, however, the house will collapse—and Canadians, after years of paying inflated rent, will be left to pick up the pieces.
