একবার আমি এবিপি আনন্দের একটা আলোচনা সভায় বলেছিলাম, মেয়র হিসাবে ভাল কাজ করার জন্য সুব্রত মুখোপাধ্যায় যখন তৃণমূল থেকে বহিষ্কৃত হন (২০০৫) তখন সংবাদমাধ্যমে বলেছিলেন, “মমতার স্বভাবের প্রধান দোষ হচ্ছে পরশ্রীকাতরতা। কারোর ভাল দেখতে পারে না”।

যখন এই কথা বলছিলাম তখন ফোন নিশ্চুপ করা ছিল, কিন্তু বারবার ফোন আসছিল। বিরতির সময় দেখলাম, একজন সাংবাদিক (নাম বলছি না), তাঁকে ফোন করলাম। উত্তরে তিনি বললেন, “আপনি তো আসল কথাটাই বললেন না! সুব্রত এও বলেছিল, যদি ওর মায়ের ছবি ঘন ঘন কাগজে বেরোয় তাহলে মমতা মাকে বাড়ি থেকে বের করে দেবে”।

কুনাল ঘোষের ‘মাসিমা' নিয়ে উচ্ছ্বাস দেখে এই কথাটা মনে পড়ল।

ছবিটি বেশ। কিন্তু পুরোনো স্টিম ইঞ্জিন ড্রাইভারদের মত মাথায় ফেট্টি কেন? মুসলমান ভোটের লোভে না কি?

কুড়ি বছর পিছনে যান। রাজ্যে তখন আলিমুদ্দিন স্ট্রিটের রাজত্ব। একটি ফোন গেলেই থানার বড়বাবু থেকে কলেজের প্রিন্সিপাল, সবাই সোজা হয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে পড়ত। সেই সময়ে দাঁড়িয়ে আপনি সাহস করে একটি আরএসএস-এর বুকস্টল দিতে পারতেন ? দক্ষিণপন্থী প্রকাশনীর একটি বই রাখতে পারতেন যেখানে লেখা আছে - পশ্চিমবঙ্গে সমাজতন্ত্রের নামে লুটতন্ত্র, ভারতে কমিউনিস্টদের অত্যাচারের ইতিহাস, ফ্যাসিবাদ আর মার্কসবাদ একই মুদ্রার এপিঠ-ওপিঠ?

পারতেন না। আপনাকে দাঁড়াতেই দিত না। কলেজের গেটের বাইরেই আপনার স্টল উল্টে ফেলে বইগুলোতে আগুন ধরিয়ে দিত। অনুমতি চাইতে গেলে প্রিন্সিপাল হেসে বলত, ক্যাম্পাসে সাম্প্রদায়িক বইয়ের জায়গা নেই। চৌত্রিশ বছর যারা দেখেছে, তারা জানে, বইয়ের স্টলের অনুমতিটুকুও মিলত না, প্রতিবাদ করা তো দূরের কথা। তখন বই পোড়ানোটাই ছিল ওদের কাছে বিপ্লব।

আর আজকের চিত্রটা দেখুন, ঠিক উল্টো। আজ তারাই সেজেছে বইপ্রেমী। তারাই ফেসবুকে গলা ফাটিয়ে কাঁদছে - বিজেপি নাকি বই সহ্য করতে পারে না, আরএসএস নাকি বুকস্টল ভাঙছে। যারা সারাজীবন লাইব্রেরি থেকে বই সরিয়েছে, লেখককে জেলে ভরেছে, প্রকাশককে ভাতে মেরেছে, তারাই আজ বাকস্বাধীনতার ধ্বজাধারী। আর আপনারা সেই গল্পটাই গিলতে বাধ্য করছেন এখনকার প্রজন্মকে। এটাই ওদের নৈতিক জয়।

এই ন্যারেটিভের যুদ্ধে সিপিআইএম আপনাদের থেকে একশো বছর এগিয়ে। কারণ ওরা বুদ্ধি দিয়ে চলে। ওরা জানে, ক্ষমতা দখলের আগে মগজ দখল করতে হয়। আর মগজ দখল হয় বই দিয়ে, পত্রিকা দিয়ে, কবিতা দিয়ে, গল্প দিয়ে। ওরা বছরের পর বছর ধরে নিজেদের লেখক পুষেছে, প্রকাশককে টাকা দিয়েছে, তাদের বই স্কুলের লাইব্রেরি থেকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সিলেবাস, সর্বত্র ঢুকিয়েছে।

আর আপনারা কী করেছেন? আপনারা যারা নিজেদের জাতীয়তাবাদী বলেন?

বুকে হাত দিয়ে বলুন তো, এই বাংলায় কতজন জাতীয়তাবাদী লেখক নিজের পকেটের টাকা খরচ করে, অপমান সহ্য করে, হুমকি সহ্য করে বই লিখে যাচ্ছে, তাদের খবর আপনারা রাখেন? শিবশঙ্কর দার মতো কতজন প্রকাশক, যারা বছরের পর বছর ধরে লোকসান সহ্য করেও জাতীয়তাবাদী বই ছেপে যাচ্ছে, তাদের পাশে আপনারা কজন দাঁড়িয়েছেন?

এই যে ছোটদের জন্য ছড়ায় ছড়ায় রামায়ণ বইটা আমরা করলাম। বারবার বলেছি, প্রচার করেছি,কারণ শিশুমনে ছোট থেকেই সংস্কৃতি প্রবেশ করে। হ্যাঁ, দু-একজন ফোন করে উৎসাহ দিয়েছেন, কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত কজন এগিয়ে এসেছেন বইটা ছাপাতে, কিনতে, নিজের বাচ্চার হাতে তুলে দিতে? আপনারা দুর্গাপুজোয় কোটি কোটি টাকা উড়িয়ে দিচ্ছেন লাইট, প্যান্ডেল আর আত্মপ্রচারে, কিন্তু একটি জাতীয়তাবাদী শিশুসাহিত্যের জন্য আপনাদের পকেট থেকে একশো টাকা বেরোয় না।

এইভাবে যুদ্ধ জেতা যায় না।

আপনারা নিজেরাই বামপন্থীদের মুখগুলোকে পুষবেন। তাদের লেখা বই কিনবেন,তাদের জন্য পয়সা খরচ করবেন, তাদের জাতীয়তাবাদী শিবিরে জায়গা করে দেবেব,তাদের বুদ্ধিজীবী নিজেদের পত্রিকায় লেখাবেন, আর নিজেদের ঘরের ছেলেমেয়েগুলো, যারা রক্ত জল করে বই ছাপছে, তাদের বইগুলো লোকসমাজে নিয়ে আসার দায়িত্ব নেবেন না। শুধু বড় বড় বাতেলা মারবেন।

শুনুন, বামপন্থীরা বইকে বানিয়েছে অস্ত্র, আর আপনারা বইকে বানিয়ে রেখেছেন শখ। ওরা বই দিয়ে ক্ষমতা দখল করার নতুন পন্থা অবলম্বন করেছে,আর আপনারা তাদের নিজেদের শিবিরে জায়গা করে দিয়েছেন।

যদি সত্যিই লড়তে চান, তাহলে কান্নাকাটি বন্ধ করুন। নিজের ঘরের প্রকাশককে বাঁচান। জাতীয়তাবাদী লেখকের বই কিনুন, দশ জনকে কিনতে বলুন।

না হলে এই ন্যারেটিভের যুদ্ধে আপনারা শুধু হারবেন না, আপনারা মুছে যাবেন,কারণ নতুন প্রজন্ম ৩৪ বছর দেখেনি।

This is not the time to be silent. @abhijeet_dipke and the @Cockroachisback are being funded by donors in the U.S. who are against Prime Minister @NarendraModi and your future under his leadership. Do not fear, my young patriots. Your Prime Minister, who has served India for 25 years, 12 years as Prime Minister, elected three consecutive terms, is not going to bow to disruptive forces from my country.

And these select donors have a pattern globally - target conservative global leaders, find an U.S. educated person from the country, radicalize them, send them back to the country, and fund them to start chaos and destruction. None of them have been successful but have impacted the development and governance of the country.

Dear Rahul Gandhi,

You say you have understood the RSS “inside out” for over a decade. Yet your understanding of its history seems to have skipped a few chapters.

Your great-grandfather’s government banned the RSS in 1948. Your grandmother’s government banned it during the Emergency in 1975. Another Congress-led government banned it in 1992.

Three bans. Three attempts to stop an organisation that began in 1925.

And what happened?

The bans were lifted. The RSS continued. And the organisation you keep declaring finished is still here.

If banning an organisation were enough to erase it, your family’s political legacy would have settled this question decades ago. Instead, you are still holding press conferences and writing posts about the same organisation.

You call the RSS cowardly. But during the Emergency, when civil liberties were suspended and opposition leaders were jailed, RSS volunteers were among those who participated in resistance to the regime. Your grandmother’s government even banned the RSS while jailing political opponents.

Quite an interesting definition of cowardice, Mr Gandhi.

And please spare us the dramatic declarations about defending the Constitution. The Constitution is not the property of one political dynasty, one party, or one family. India belongs to its people.

You say you have the information you need. Excellent. Then present evidence, not theatrical threats. Name your allegations, establish the facts, and let the public judge.

The RSS has faced bans, criticism, political opposition and decades of hostility. It has continued its work regardless. You are free to disagree with its ideology, but calling millions of people cowards does not make your argument stronger.

A final historical reminder: the RSS was founded in 1925. Your political family has held the highest office in India for decades. Yet, nearly a century later, you are still trying to convince the country that the RSS is about to disappear.

Perhaps the real question is not why the RSS has survived all these years.

Perhaps it is why Congress still needs the RSS to be its principal villain.

Debate ideas with facts, Rahul ji. History has already heard enough slogans.

Mr. Musk, yes, no billionaire should dictate a nation’s policy - Indian or American.

India must welcome competition in satellite internet, from Indian and global providers, whoever offers the most practical and affordable last-mile solution for those in remote regions. In countries with lower per-capita incomes, satellite internet must be affordable too. High subscription fees and equipment costs risk putting it beyond the reach of ordinary households. Connectivity must bridge the digital divide, not create a new one.

India knows our networks and spectrum are strategic infrastructure, not merely commercial assets. India’s national security safeguards are non-negotiable.

Every country makes choices based on its own interests. Those in the West cannot preach free markets while practicing protectionism at home. USA imposed 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs to protect its domestic industry, just as India takes measures to protect its own domestic manufacturers. Both India and the US have restricted Huawei over security concerns. One cannot demand a level playing field from others only when it suits its own agenda.

Indians will internally debate, question and address our strengths and shortcomings as a democratic country.

Take BharatNet, India’s programme to bring broadband to village-level local bodies. We will question why, as the CAG’s 2026 audit report found, the programme is struggling to meet its original objectives. Why were only 33.2% of service-ready Gram Panchayats operational, despite ₹39,888 crore being spent? At the same time, we know to appreciate our telecom sector and regulations, which has made internet data among the world’s most affordable, bringing millions online.

India is a democracy, not a colony. We welcome the world, but we, the Indian people, will decide our own future - not Western vested interests, their double standards or any billionaire - Indian or American.

Healthy dialogue is always important for greater understanding. The real lesson here is understanding India and this truth: you want to do business with India, you respect the country first and then, secondly, talk to PM @narendramodi and the Indian Government. Period.

Furthermore, the PM and India would never bypass its own business talent and national contributors, in this case Mr. Ambani Ji and Mr. Adani Ji, for a foreign company, Starlink. Especially in matters of national security. The PM is elected to protect the homeland and promote “India First” in a free enterprise. The rural areas of India are better served by homegrown companies. And the best diplomacy and strategy for American interest in India, my dear @elonmusk, should be towards partnering with Indian companies to elevate the Indian people. A greater force for good is a Ambani-Adani-Musk alliance for India’s rural areas! 🇺🇸🇮🇳

As for all you “Rahul trolls” on X, many of you are young people with great potential. You can continue circling the fictitious narrative that Rahul will be PM of India. Meanwhile, the @BJP-led NDA and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have emerged as the dominant forces in the October 2026 by-elections, with all six constituencies across four states and Union Territories going in their favour. The results dealt a setback to Congress, TMC, DMK and AIADMK, none of which secured a victory. Governance is won through elections. Voting is power. Not trolling on X.

Honestly, if @RahulGandhi loved his country as much as he criticizes his country, and spent more time advancing the positives of the PM’s transformative policies, he could be taken seriously to lead India. But, I digress. PM Modi elected consistently over a span of 25 years, 12 years as PM, is not by chance. There is divinity attached to the PM’s longevity, real inspiration, in addition to his acumen as a serial visionary and global strategic force.

So carry on my dears with Rahul as your fictitious hero. PM Modi is India’s real hero. God bless you all. 🇺🇸🇮🇳

You hv certainly stirred up plenty of reaction with ur posts. But this needs a response from me, as did ur “Electronic Voting machines can be hacked” post from some time ago.

As someone who knows a little bit abt Telecom as someone who played a decent-ish role in building Indias wireless sector as an Entrepreneur and then as a policy maker , let me share my thoughts.

It is true that Indias Telecom was a sector beset with opaqueness and corruption for several decades - where cronies ruled under the benevolent love and the politics of ur latest fan (name not withheld - @RahulGandhi )

But under PM @narendramodi , 3 principles govern the tech (including Telecom/Internet) sector.

Open, Safe & Trusted and Accountable.

✅ Open - Free from any monopoly-duopoly. Free and fair competition.

✅ #SafeAndTrusted - Infra, Network , Platforms must be safe and trusted.

✅ Accountable - Every participant should be legally accountable for safety and trust.

I was a MP first and then part of PM @narendramodi jis team when this framework was developed. I have more than a little experience of fighting years of political and bureaucratic opaqueness and corruption, which shaped these principles.
so todays India is not that old crony driven India.

I am not in govt anymore and certainly dont speak for it. But it seems to me that Govt has made it clear: all three satcom licensees are at broadly the same stage of ensuring security clearance by verifying its safety and trust first, then spectrum.

Satellite IP services have many security implications. More so in a country like India which has faced years of Terror and insurgency supported by inmical state actors in our neighbourhood. From 26/11 terror attacks to recent ones in Pahalgam, satcom has been preferred comm for Terrorists. Satellite VOIP and encryption creates more challenges security wise. Not insurmountable but new capabilities and capacity hv to be built to ensure Safety and Trust.

I hv used @Starlink and I think its awesome technology - and represents a new era in mobility innovation. No doubt.

But a country has to plan for itself and its interests before every new choice. Thats what India is doing. Patience is unavoidable and in this case is a necessity.
