Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary (Defence Production), met Mr. Patrick Mariru, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Government of Kenya, on 20 January 2026 to discuss defence industry cooperation between India and Kenya.
🔸Both sides noted the encouraging participation of Indian defence companies at the 3rd India–Kenya #Defence Expo and #Seminar, held on 19 January 2026, across key defence domains including shipbuilding and #navalsystems, land systems, #UAVs, #missilesystems, #weapons, ammunition and explosives, armoured and military vehicles, optical devices, protection systems, and cyber security. It was also noted that the Kenya Defence Forces (#KDF) will hold separate meetings with participating Indian industries.
🔸In a subsequent meeting with Lt Gen John M. Omenda, Vice Chief of Defence Staff, Government of #Kenya, and other senior officers of the KDF, discussions focused on further strengthening India–Kenya defence cooperation. Areas of collaboration included defence industrial partnerships, capacity building, training, marine sustainment, and long-term cooperation in defence exports and maintenance support.
🔸Both sides agreed that deliberations from the India–Kenya Defence Expo and Seminar should be converged into a roadmap with tangible outcomes.

Glad to officiate opening of the 3rd Kenya–India Defence Exhibition this morning.
Aptly themed *Defence Collaboration for a Resilient Future*, the exhibition brings together over twenty Indian defence companies to explore co-development, joint ventures, and technology transfer. These engagements align directly with Kenya's defence modernisation agenda and our industrial capability development priorities.
Kenya and India are bound by history, mutual respect, and strategic interests and our Defence Cooperation MoU has delivered meaningful capacity building, professional exchanges, and joint exercises that strengthen our sovereignty and enhance regional stability.
What we now seek are partnerships that build local capacity, enable skills transfer, and support the gradual localisation of defence production. Our objective is clear: sustainable defence capability that protects our nation and drives industrial growth.
Joining me were H.E. Dr. Adarsh Swaika, High Commissioner of India to Kenya; Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary for Defence Production, Ministry of Defence of India; Lieutenant General Omenda, Vice Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces; Service Commanders Major General Waliaula (Kenya Air Force) and Major General Otieno (Kenya Navy); and senior representatives from both nations' defence forces and industries. Their presence underscores the deep commitment of both nations to this strategic partnership and our shared vision for defence cooperation.
In my closing remarks, I urged all participants to look beyond equipment displays and focus on critical enablers: systems integration, logistics sustainability, cyber resilience, and the responsible application of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
