Buffets will totally cut off people who try to take 50 plates of crab. It's obviously antisocial behavior.
They will at minimum expect you to eat your previous plates before going for more, but might just kick you out if they think you're being too greedy.
There's "no limit" except for pathological cases and that's honestly a good thing.
@HoochNScooch@Mappy6984 I guarantee people will try to stuff them in their purse. And no, "if you want 50 crab legs you can get it" is not how a buffet works. It's a business and will shut down if it's not profitable
But low class? Sure.
This is true for a lot of people and it's worth saying so people don't feel obligated to go down that path.
But what's kind of funny is that I bought a nice car in 2019 and have absolutely loved it the entire time. I actually didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.
It made me realize that spending the extra money really does bring extra happiness sometimes. I realize that I'm somewhat of a car guy! It's great to find out where you should spend big money
@RhysSullivan My current belief is that some subset of good engineering decisions do actually make things faster and better (see tigerbeetle), but it's a lot harder than people think. Most people end up slowing themselves down without actually adding much value.
@IterIntellectus I mean, they probably just can't SAY that it's allowed. The question is are they testing for it and enforcing the results. If they are, then indeed it's a bummer
@SCHIZO_FREQ My reasoning is more like "the best in the world avoid steroids because they want the most prestigious award, which requires them not to"
therefore, the roided up dudes will be starting from a reduced baseline. but still interested to see how much roids help
in 2026 this video goes so hard
- no vibe coding
- no cursor tab completion
- no dot auto-complete
- no syntax highlighting
- using Visual C++ 6 because he hasn't changed his setup since Y2K

@garybernhardt@mycoliza It's a skill issue but I am not very good at shipping projects if I hold them to the highest standards that I'd prefer. So I compromise and try to iterate toward the right balance
@garybernhardt@mycoliza Agreed but it's not inherently good to apply quality where it doesn't matter, and it wastes time. It's very hard to draw the line effectively
@catehall i think some people feel awkward expressing a desire to not be social, as if everyone is supposed to want to be social all the time
that said, i think they put the option there specifically to make people more comfortable stating that preference, so i'm sure it would be fine
