من الأصول التي يقوم عليها التصور العقدي عند السلفية أن صرف شيء من العبادة لغير الله شركٌ ناقل عن الملة، وأن هذه المسألة هي الحد الفاصل بين الإسلام والكفر، وأنه لا يعذر بالجهل فيها وأن من وقع في شيء من صورها لم ينفعه انتسابه إلى الإسلام، ولا نطقه بالشهادتين، حتى يحقق التوحيد على الوجه الذي قرروه. هذا رأي جمهورها.
وقد نقض الشيخ د. حاتم الشريف هذا الأصل وكشف ما يكتنف مفهوم شرك العبادة من اضطراب، وما يترتب على إطلاقه من أحكام ولوازم، وذلك في كتابيه :
1- مفهوم شرك العبادة.
2- تكفير أهل الشهادتين.
غير أن السلفية سارعت إلى اتهامه بأنه لم يعرف التوحيد الذي هو أول واجب على العبيد، وفي هذا الاتهام من التعريض بدينه ما لا يخفى، وإن سلم من الحكم عليه بنقض أصل الإسلام، لم يسلم ـ في أحسن أحواله عندهم من أن يُرمى بالإرجاء !
والشيخ حاتم يعلم، كما يعلم كل ذي بصيرة أن طرد مفهوم العبادة السلفي لا بد أن يصل في التكفير إلى مستويات لا نهاية لها.
وعندما ظهرت أصوات ملتزمة بخطها التراثي وأصول مدوناتها العقدية، وكفرّت السيوطي لاستغاثته بغير الله، فرّ بعض السلفية من هذا الأثر وهذا الحكم المبني على أصلهم في توحيد العبادة، واتجهوا إلى شخص المكفّر، ورأوا في المباهلة فيصلا في هذه المسألة.
والمكفِّر مع ضلاله في هذا المقام ليس شاذًّا عن أصوله بل هو أشد اتساقا ووفاءً بتلك المقدمات ممن باهلوه على نتائجها.
فتكفيره للسيوطي هو إجراء حكم متفق عليه سلفيا على من تحققت فيه علته، وغرابة الحكم عند من خالفوه من أبناء مدرسته، أنه لم يفرّق بين متقدم ومتأخر، ولا بين إمام مشهور وغيره.
والعلاج ليس سبيله في مباهلة المكفِّر، ولا استنكار قوله حين يبلغ الحكمُ إمامًا نجلّه، وإنما سبيله مراجعة الأصول نفسها، وإحسان الظن بكل نقد علمي يضيق دوائر تكفيرالمسلمين .

Ibn al-Humām [d. 1457 CE] notes in his work Fatḥ al-Qadīr:

"It has also been said: listening is not disliked for people if it occurs at a wedding or wedding banquet, even if it involves singing, since it is a kind specific to weddings by textual sanction. The answer, then, is that singing to make oneself hear and to ward off loneliness is [a matter of] disagreement among the scholars. Some of them said: it is not disliked; rather, what is disliked is only that which is done as a path toward frivolity/vanity, as evidenced by the fact that Anas ibn Mālik (may God be pleased with him) entered upon his brother al-Barā' ibn Mālik, and [al-Barā'] was among the ascetic Companions, and he was singing — and Shams al-A'imma al-Sarakhsī (may God have mercy on him) adopted this position."
