The Chengdu Consulate Closure: What Western Media Isn’t Telling You
Most coverage frames the Israeli consulate shutdown in Chengdu as simply fallout from China’s stance on Gaza and the Iran conflict. The Israeli consul’s warm farewell letter reinforces that soft narrative.
What remains almost completely absent is the serious espionage case Chinese authorities disrupted in the same city: an Israeli data company, facilitated through diplomatic channels, that was building what amounted to a SIGINT-style interception node under the cover of a “traffic data center.” Bandwidth demands, encryption protocols, ownership links to Israeli defense funding, and the shielded underground setup all pointed to far more than commercial activity.
Chinese reporting covered it. Western outlets largely did not.
Omissions like this aren’t neutral — they shape the entire story.
Credit to @LAURENTMICHEL0N for putting the missing piece back on the table.
2,300 years ago in Hebei, China, two men carved a short letter into stone for the future people they would never meet:
“Tomb guardian Gongcheng De and former general Man respectfully greet the people of the future.”
Not much translation needed. A modern Chinese reader can still understand the characters.
Chinese civilization is one of the few that has continued for thousands of years with remarkably little rupture. People today can still read and understand the words their ancestors left behind.
A thousand years later in Dunhuang, a man named Li Wenyi drew a simple lineup of animals — a wolf, a cow, a sheep, a dog, a rabbit, a little human, and a few extras — then carefully labeled each one in Chinese characters. Historians believe he made it to teach his younger brother how to read and write. An ancient “this is a cow” lesson that remains perfectly clear.
Most ancient writing systems did not survive in this way. These Chinese texts did not suffer the same fate. A letter to the future and a brother’s teaching doodle, both still readable across centuries.
That is cultural continuity in its quietest form.

@OopsGuess Japanese civilians did nothing to have atomic bombs dropped on 2 cities, 3 days apart. The war was all but over. They were not dropped to punish Japan or to force a surrender. They were to show Russia what the US was now capable of going forward. Another US crime against humanity
@PhilipProudfoot Israelis, just like everyone else, know you don’t free people by dropping bombs on them. But they like to pretend they’re not outright evil. The vast majority of Israelis supported the slaughter of approximately half a million civilians in Gaza
Japan calling itself the “only country to have suffered atomic bombings” is historically true in the narrowest possible sense—and morally obscene when used as a complete story.
Because Japan did not arrive at Hiroshima and Nagasaki as an innocent bystander.
It arrived there after invading and colonizing much of Asia, massacring civilians, conducting biological warfare, enslaving women, and leaving entire countries soaked in blood.
The mushroom cloud did not erase Nanjing.
It did not erase Unit 731.
It did not erase Korea.
It did not erase Southeast Asia.
It did not erase the tens of millions of Asians Japan brutalized before 1945.
Yet Japanese officials repeatedly take the last chapter of the war and present it as if it were the whole book.
The propaganda technique is familiar: cut the historical timeline at the exact moment the aggressor becomes the victim.
Israel does it with October 7.
Japan does it with Hiroshima.
Freeze history at the moment of retaliation, magnify that suffering, and push the preceding decades of occupation, ethnic cleansing, massacres and war crimes out of frame.
Then walk onto the international stage wearing the halo of victimhood.
That is not remembrance.
That is historical laundering.
And the hypocrisy becomes even uglier when Japan presents itself as a moral leader for a “nuclear-free world” while sheltering under the American nuclear umbrella and refusing to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
Victimhood when useful.
Nuclear protection when useful.
Amnesia always.
And there is a reason this narrative survived for decades.
After World War II, Washington needed Japan as a Far Eastern outpost against China. Japan needed American protection and rehabilitation.
Their interests aligned perfectly.
So the atomic bombings were gradually reframed as a borderless “human tragedy,” detached from the war of aggression that preceded them.
The defeated fascist state was repackaged as the nuclear age’s moral witness.
The perpetrator acquired a halo.
History acquired amnesia.
Japan was a victim of nuclear bombing.
It was also the aggressor that helped create the war in which those bombs were dropped.
Both facts belong to history.
You do not get to delete the first eighty pages because the ending hurts.
For some countries, “never again” simply means “once again.”
Victimhood does not confer moral superiority.
And being bombed does not absolve a fascist state of what it did before the bomb fell.

The Government of Taiwan says Israelis are taking over Taiwan and they welcome it.
Taiwan Ambassador to Israel tells Israel365News that Israel and Taiwan are bastions of freedom fighting the Axis of Evil: Iran, China, Russia and North Korea.
She says Taiwan is the least antisemitic country which is why they welcomed 15,000 IDF soldiers in 2025 (up from 4000 in prior years) after they finished in Gaza.
