I collected almost all my customers' phone numbers at my carwash, and always reached out to them.

It was an effective strategy for retaining them.

And bond them with the business.

So...

I decided to try it out when I opened my retail store.

And at first... not many customers.

We collected everyone's contact.

Then send weekly/ monthly messages.

We moved to targeting spenders.

While everyone else received monthly texts...

We pegged spenders based on 5k purchase, initially.

And what I instructed my guys to do:

Anyone who buys anything 5k and above "upload their detail on our WhatsApp group."

So, the following morning, I would reach out via text message to appreciate them. Branded message, carrying my business name.

Then our contact list grew to 500 customers.

Then it grew to 1,000 customers.

Then 2,000.

Then 4,000.

And now, 10,000+ customers.

Shortly after it grew to 1,500, everything became a serious workload for me, as I could spend 2 hours still sending messages.

Because they are always personalized messages...

Stating their names and amount spent.

So, I can't bulk-send messages in that regard.

This in turn created a serious problem to be solved, else it grows to the point where I manually send messages from morning till noon time.

And that's not smart.

And should I stop, I'll feel the impact on my business.

Long story short.

"Hello, software engineer"

"I want people to receive personalized alerts when they make purchases."

And that was it.

And till today...

That still fascinates my customers.

And when they don't receive the message, they become very worried.

I will tell you why they are worried...

But the point of the post is this:

You've heard people tell you to automate some processes.

This is an example.

And the most important reason for automation is so you can free your hands, and THINK.
