Bingo! And this is what is the matter with city of yes in NYC. It’s unleashes the real estate barons and who are largely responsible for the current affordable housing crisis. Some smart people are totally naïve, and believing filtering (‘trickle down’) will happen. We will end up with more luxury condos and overseas buyers. With poor people pushed out.

Streets (and sidewalks) are not retail selling floors nor restaurant service areas.

They are for people to walk, skate, bike, or drive to get from place to place. Period.

It’s much easy to bike or take the subway in New York, but people choose to spend excessive amounts of money because they like to ride in cars.

@BenMillerise Trying to compare secondary cities like Austin (or Minneapolis or Nashville, etc.) to NYC and Cali is overly simplistic. It’s easy to build too much housing in a place like Austin, where not that many people want to live. And where the cost of living (for everything) is low.
