@n_g_laskowski Personally I’m all for replacing GE-level logic courses with something like David Manley’s Reason Better course. It’s much easier to justify and explain…
@sam_berstler@LedermanHarvey@fabcariani Yeah, some cross-linguistic variation + “fake”/“collective” mass nouns like ‘furniture’ or ‘luggage’—ones that are morphosyntactically mass but semantically count—are cautionary tales, but they don’t undermine the significance of the mass/count distinction across the board.
@n_g_laskowski @Finite_jest I'm not tenured yet, but I don't and won't operate on the debt model for this reason. I only submit something once or twice per year (via the normal publishing route), but my aim to referee 10+ papers per year doesn't depend on it.
@eschwitz@myishacherry Such a great hire. Congrats to everyone involved! Looking forward to seeing/hearing/reading all the wonderful public philosophy produced by UCR faculty in the coming years.
@cmlittlejohn @KevinZollman Ha, I can’t get your link to work! It’s his ‘Internalism Re-Explained’. PhilPapers has a draft, as does his website I think. The official link:

@KevinZollman @cmlittlejohn Another paper worth reading (and one I’m generally sympathetic with)—a chapter in Ralph Wedgwood’s recent book:

@willwilkinson I’m a fan of this paper by Andrei Marmor (Cornell):

He also has a follow up paper on privacy and social media that’s good.
@js_thrill @n_g_laskowski Yeah, it was misleading for them to include the stat embedded in a tweet in the article without clarifying or explaining it. I had to click through the link to get the context for the stat.
@js_thrill @n_g_laskowski The 1 in 5 new COVID cases being reinfections stat? Not sure what proportion of pre-BA5 cases were reinfections, but regardless I was talking about *recent* reinfections (< 3 mo.) while the stat concerns those “who had previously tested positive for Covid more than 90 days ago.”
@js_thrill @n_g_laskowski For sure. Not sure there’s any substantive disagreement with what I said/think—BA5 strains are quicker to reinfect, but that’s compatible with most people still having significant (albeit waning) protection against reinfection in the near-term (1-3 months).
