@jjpcodes@andrewhart Latest macOS update, Tahoe, feels like it’s solved most of spotlight for me now. Apps and shortcuts seem to surface as the first option most of the time now.
@alemalohe@JoshuaIPark A leaderboard is very possible if opt-in (and opt-out by hiding your stripe profile).
Given the short timeline because we wanted to launch right before Black Friday/Thanksgiving, and that this may be one of our first truly public feature, we wanted to play it very conservatively
@alemalohe@JoshuaIPark We did originally have the backlink but legal issues prevented us from doing so. The mrr/metrics page is in a way anonymous still because your stripe profile username doesn’t have to be your business name.
We do have interesting new ideas to try in the coming months.
Massive FOMO. It makes me want to build in public again. Thanks for that Stripe 😂
Ever since Tailscan moved to the background a bit (feature complete for the most part), I've been building Lexboost (AI for Dutch lawyers)
Also the reason I've been quiet on here. I can't build in public. Competition is fierce, and since I have a cofounder as well, sharing public stats only has downsides in this case.
But man, with @Stripe releasing this, I really feel the urge to build something on the side and in public again. The question is what..
Really happy they decided to build this. I know it was considered out of scope for a long time at Stripe, but the recent public debate about inflated (ARR) numbers of some startups must've shifted priorities.
Thank you for doing this for the community!
One of the coolest parts of working at Stripe is ideas can come from anywhere.
This one came about when @dangitdennis and I were brainstorming how we could give businesses tools to share their accomplishments with the world in a trustworthy way, so we decided to just build it.
Enjoy! 📈
How to build good new products at larger companies:
1. Pretend you have 0 customers and 0 distribution.
2. Think big: Imagine you have unlimited time and money, what would you build?
3. Then, think small: What can you build in 1-2 weeks. Put it in 10 user's hands.
4. Repeat until you have a seed of something obviously good.
At all times, embrace throwing away code and do things that won't scale. Also, it's acceptable to do things that will piss off the people who "see like a state".
