@Deepcosmoss Delayed choice doesn’t let you rewrite a photon’s past. It says there was no classical “which path” until the question you actually asked. Detectors suffice—no cosmic pencil in your glance. Reconsolidation is real; it isn’t Wheeler. Don’t weld them.
@MiguelSCompton@ger_tzedek@AbeGreenwald@CliffordAsness The jews, the Jewish people, Judaism, is a civilization that matured millennia before the advent of your conceptual differentiations. You are shoehorning a 5-thousand year old civilization retroactively into your own anachronistic categories.
@ScrubsLord29685@RoyKAltman Living standards soared for all:
• Black poverty: ~55% (1959) → ~17% today
• Real incomes doubled for Black households
• Life expect, homeownership, educ & healthc access up sharply across races
Broad material prog thanks to growth, tech & markets. Not a static “shithole.”
@JuniusBrutus25@RoyKAltman This is to blame Jews for antisemitism. No one would justify anti-Americanism because of hate of Obama or Trump. Or anti-Russianism because of hate of Putin. Or anti-Frenchism because of hate of Macron. This is an obvious double standard, even in the case of your Jewish friends.
@HusseinAboubak Congratulations! You must read Bernard Lonergan—who reached up to the mind of Aquinas. In Insight, A Study of Human Understanding, he proposes a transcendental method based on self appropriation of our own cognition activity to provide us with Foundations.
@HusseinAboubak Hussein, I’m circulating amongst my friends a PDF (full credit to you) of Ch7 of Minority of One. I have kept abreast of the Middle East for decades. What you portray is well beyond anything my imagination could ever conceive. (Tell me if you want copies, English and Spanish.)
@GoldsteinBrooke Brooke, you are a lawyer. In Western legal traditions, particularly within constitutional democracies, there are entrenched principles designed to safeguard fundamental values against erosion, even if that erosion occurs through democratic processes. Teach us!
Contemporary antisemitism in Western institutions, particularly universities, is often rightly analyzed through frameworks of ideology, radicalism, or even mass migration. Yet these interpretive lenses, while capturing genuine dimensions of the crisis, and I personally like to focus on the philosophical and intellectual dimension of them, if absloutized into total idealism they miss what may be the most significant structural dynamic at work: a comprehensive competition between elite formations for position, authority, and power within the institutions that constitute Western power, privilege, governance, and cultural production. The current crisis of antisemitism is not merely the expression of prejudice from below, though it is certainly that, or the infiltration of alien ideologies from outside, which is also true, but rather the battlefield manifestation of an epochal elite substitution process occurring simultaneously at three interconnected levels: within Western liberal-left institutions themselves, within the broader American-managed international order in the Middle East, and now within right-wing populism’s own internal factional struggles.
This tripartite competition involves distinct yet opportunistically converging dynamics. First, an ascending postcolonial elite challenges established Jewish components of an older Western liberal-left elite for institutional authority and moral capital within universities, foundations, and cultural institutions. Second, Qatar pursues a parallel displacement strategy at the geopolitical level, seeking to replace Israel as the indispensable regional ally of Western powers by offering superior management services suited for the age of neoliberal deindustrialized accumulation. Third, an antisemitic faction within the New Right has emerged to challenge both established conservative elites (coded as too philosemitic) and liberal-Jewish elites (identified as original architects of national corruption), viewing the conflict between Jewish and postcolonial elites as merely an in-house fight between two alien cosmopolitan formations. Each competition deploys antisemitism, with its wealth of ready-made repertoires, symbols, and intellectual structures accumulated from the previous phases of European, Soviet, Arab, and Islamist ideologies, as its cost-effective ideological weapon, yet each operates according to distinct logics and pursues distinct objectives. Understanding contemporary antisemitism requires recognizing it not only as prejudice or as the fetishized consciousness of socio-economic crisis, but also as the modular political technology and legitimating discourse through which multiple elite formations simultaneously challenge established power, seeking substitution rather than revolution, positional advantage rather than structural transformation.
This essay will lay out in detail the structure of these three competitions, the mechanisms through which each operates, and the opportunistic convergences through which they reinforce one another while advancing apparently incompatible political projects.
