We gained rare access to Debel, one of a handful of Christian-majority villages whose residents have been allowed to remain. Besieged, they rely on humanitarian convoys vetted by Israel.

Even within the village, residents’ movements are restricted by the Israeli army, which is stationed on the outskirts, has installed surveillance cameras and continues to bar access to parts of the village.

Unlike the other Christian villages, Debel itself was occupied for months, and dozens of homes on its outskirts were destroyed.
