After working for years on cardiac fibrosis, now on lung fibrosis at a fibrosis-focused company, one thing I can say for sure: we are far away from understanding fibroblast biology.

Very happy to share our work on how the #hyaluronan matrix influences lesion stability in #atherosclerosis. To our surprise, HA/CD44 regulates SMC phenotype via acute-phase proteins!
We spent a few years trying to fit the observations in this paper into the accepted knowledge about #SMC and their contribution to lesion stability in #atherosclerosis but as scRNAseq became ubiquitous, these results started to make a lot more sense. Read why! @lab_owens@UVACVRC
