Great to host a carbon removal panel at Carbon Unbound.
Real talk on our strengths, gaps & how Canada leads this sector.
It's been so much fun to be here with fantastic colleagues from the @carbonremovers team
Abundant natural resources, competitive tax incentives, and a regulatory regime that inspires certainty.
Canada has it all - and it's securing us investment.
Welcome to Canada, @CarbonCaptureUS 🇨🇦

So excited to be at Carbon Capture Canada 2025.
I’m so happy to see more carbon removal based panels and companies than ever before. It’s a great sign about a growing and critical industry, and the interest in deploying in 🇨🇦
❗Check out the Carbon Console — Canada’s first dashboard, which is already tracking over 11 Mt of planned carbon removal.
“We’re not just talking about climate action, we’re building it.” - @NaimMerchant 🔗 https://t.co/GBbRiap805
We need to talk about nation building projects, but we can't lose sight of the things we can do today that achieve those same goals.
Carbon removal technologies are part of that equation and some are ready to go today.
Canada's pulp and paper mills could be carbon removal gold mines. While we debate the future, we could be BUILDING it with tech we already have:
✅ Removes more CO2 than it creates
✅ Uses forest waste (prevents wildfires!)
✅ Creates jobs

TIER helps fund Emissions Reduction Alberta, in turn making sure that Alberta is at the forefront of deploying innovative tech, like carbon removal.
If we’re changing TIER don’t abdicate the competitive advantage that ERA gives the province #cdnpoli

This. is. huge.
@MarkJCarney has realized that we shouldn't just be part of the carbon removal conversation - but that we should be leading it. That's what these commitments will do.
🇨🇦 can and should be an economic and technological hub for carbon removal.
An absolutely packed room for Carbon Removal Day! Canada has all the right features to be a leader in carbon removal - and enthusiasm is definitely one of them.
Third isn't bad but I know we can be first.
🇨🇦 has an opportunity to build the sector and ensure it's built responsibly. New programs and funding opportunities from government over the last year are an amazing start and I know we're on the precipice of something big.
The Government of Canada has announced its climate targets for 2035. We applaud the government for recognizing the urgent need to address residual emissions, through carbon removal, in addition to reducing emissions. 🌎✨ Read our press release: https://t.co/emW7utwff8
There is no net-zero without carbon removal and @JonathanWNV is showing another reason 🇨🇦 is becoming a leader in carbon removal.
Congrats to @CarbonEngineer, @Arcaclimate & others on new funding that gets us to net-zero and negative emissions quicker!

📢 We’re excited to launch our latest report: “Procuring with Purpose: Canada’s Opportunity to Shape the Carbon Removal Market.” Explore insights on scaling carbon removal through procurement, key recommendations for leaders, and more. 🔗 https://t.co/AGV0O5bSzL #CarbonRemoval
Now's the time. Permanent carbon removal will be essential to dealing with Canada's excess emissions but I agree with @NZAB_Canada that more is needed before we set a target - Canadians must be consulted.
@s_guilbeault needs to hold a consultation in early 2025 on exactly this!
❗️A big development in @NZAB_Canada's report today
"While 🇨🇦 ... must focus primarily on reducing or eliminating emissions, the effort to address 🇨🇦’s excess emissions must be pursued in tandem and requires analyses of negative emissions options."
The Net-Zero Advisory Body (NZAB) advises the federal government to redouble its efforts and implement new measures to reach its 2030 climate target and adopt a 2035 target and tools comparable to trading partners. #NetZeroBy2050.
https://t.co/GsatSMROaS
And that's not it!
"The Government of 🇨🇦 should ultimately set numerical targets to track progress in taking additional measures to address its excess emissions."
We wrote about this exact topic earlier this summer: https://t.co/Jn7UiGeBj7
Why care about a carbon removal target if you're skeptical of the technology?
There's no net-zero without carbon removal and the industry is being built all around us. Being at the table ensures it's used for good and not to delay emission reductions. https://t.co/PJ1ciuWcnt
How do we make a positive investment climate in 🇨🇦 for DAC?
I got the chance to tell @carbon_expo_ca last week about:
➡️the power of national carbon removal targets
➡️how gov't carbon removal procurement can work
➡️the need for more 'learning by doing' and demonstration funding
I got to visit @CarbonEngineer today and tour their innovation centre - great to see how they’re pushing ahead domestically and abroad.
🇨🇦 needs to be funding more carbon removal innovation and demonstration projects. The best way to get to net-zero is to get things built.
Carbon removal, the act of permanently removing carbon emissions from the atmosphere, is an economic opportunity for Canada, says @naimmerchant in @globeandmail today.
Investing in carbon removal could create 90,000 jobs in Canada and add over $100-billion to our GDP by 2050.

There is no net-zero without permanent carbon removal and a target helps drive forward planning and accountability - helping to define what sort of future carbon removal plays in 🇨🇦.
Everyone should have a say in that through a consultation #cdnpoli
