The World Cup begins tomorrow, and many will watch the matches. Soccer reminds us of something we must not forget: life is not a race to show off on our own, but a path we learn to walk together. Anyone who does not know how to pass the ball, even if they have talent, has not yet understood the game. Anyone who does not know how to live with and for others has not yet understood life. #ApostolicJourney

A maniac pushed a woman onto the subway tracks and punched another lady in the face in Brooklyn Saturday — and was later arrested at a nearby shelter, police and sources said.
Alex Pretti was an ICU nurse whose life was devoted to keeping other people alive. He was killed by the state, shot by a federal agent. Public reporting and video footage make clear this was not a split-second mistake. It was state violence, plain and deliberate, carried out by armed agents who treat civilian life as expendable.
The hypocrisy is grotesque: the same forces that endlessly glorify lawful gun ownership are now racing to smear this man as a danger, rewriting legality as a threat the moment it becomes convenient to justify killing him. Young people in this country are exhausted by gun violence being treated as unavoidable, whether it comes from a civilian with a gun or from state-sanctioned agents acting with impunity.
Violence does not become acceptable because the shooter wears a badge. Alex Pretti was killed in the street. That demands answers and accountability, not excuses and not acceptance.
Today we remember Michelle Go, whose life was tragically taken in an unprovoked subway attack 4 years ago.
Her memory compels us to fix our broken mental health infrastructure and support those in crisis who too often go untreated. My bipartisan Michelle Go Act serves to honor her and close those gaps.
