Charlie Kirk was a brand in life.
He is an asset in death.
They will canonize him on television, print his face on fundraising emails, and pass new powers in his name.
In America, martyrdom is a policy tool.
In Israel, it is a talking point.
If you want to know what will be justified next, watch which coffins get paraded.
A brand is easy to manage.
A corpse is easier.
A living spokesman can wander off script.
A dead symbol cannot.
Public relations prefers the stillness of a portrait.
The stillness can be filled with anything.
Security. Order. Vengeance.
Whatever the pollster says will sell by sunrise.
First they mourn.
Then they legislate.
Always in that order.
There will be vigils with perfect lighting.
There will be interviews with trembling voices.
There will be a montage that edits away contradictions, missteps, and money.
There will be a slogan, short enough to fit on a hat.
There will be a bill, long enough that no one reads it.
The news cycle will call it healing.
The donors will call it momentum.
The consultants will call it framing.
The lobbyists will call it a window.
And in that window they will slide through every wish list item that could not pass during daylight.
New surveillance for your safety.
New immunities for their allies.
New lists of forbidden speech dressed up as decency.
New budgets that never sunset.
New wars that are not called wars.
Every tool needs a blessed story.
Every blessed story needs a body.
You will be told the body belongs to you.
You will be told the pain belongs to the nation.
You will be told that unity means discipline, and discipline means obedience, and obedience means vote yes.
You will be told that anyone who asks who profits from the grief is profaning the dead.
You will be told that questions are cruelty and consent is compassion.
Television will do the catechism.
The anchors will read the creed.
He was good.
He was brave.
He was necessary.
And because he was necessary, the new powers are necessary.
To doubt the powers is to doubt the man.
To doubt the man is to side with the enemies.
This is how a person becomes a policy.
Israel will nod along, because it wrote half the script and licensed the other half.
A tragedy becomes a pretext with the speed of a ticker.
A coffin becomes a map.
The map has arrows that point outward.
The arrows land in Gaza.
They also land in your city, where speech is fenced off with velvet rope and security branding.
Watch the sequence.
The tearful monologue.
The slow pan over candles.
The language of forever.
Never again, but also always again.
Never again to them, but again and again to others.
The key is to secure a monopoly on hurt.
The second key is to convert hurt into mandate.
There will be a foundation.
There will be a scholarship.
There will be a stadium prayer.
There will be a committee with a bipartisan name that no one can oppose without sounding monstrous.
It will meet in private.
It will announce in public.
And when the public asks for details, the committee will call for dignity and time to grieve.
Remember what happened the last time.
A name was carved into a law.
The law carved into your life.
You were told it was temporary.
It was not.
You were told it was narrow.
It was not.
Every sunset clause learned to rise again.
They will call this justice.
Justice is the word they use when they mean leverage.
They will call this unity.
Unity is the word they use when they mean silence.
They will call this leadership.
Leadership is the word they use when they mean control.
Pay attention to the translations.
Pay attention to the timing.
Pay attention to the hands moving under the table while the music swells.
Do not mistake a eulogy for a veto-proof mandate.
Do not mistake a funeral march for a summons to kill strangers.
Do not mistake a portrait for proof.
The portrait is proof only that the living want something from the dead.
They want your assent.
They want your fear.
They want your permission to do what they already planned to do.
Ask the forbidden questions.
Who writes the script and who bankrolls the set.
Who gets contracts and who gets flags.
Who turns grief into a permanent budget line.
Who decides which blood counts and which blood is background noise.
Which death is framed as civilization defending itself and which death is an error of targeting.
Which cry is amplified and which cry is cut in post.
The saddest truth is not that a man is gone.
The saddest truth is that a system knows how to turn his absence into fuel.
It has a furnace for that.
It feeds on shock.
It burns on certainty.
It exhausts policy that drifts across borders and into your bedroom.
It leaves ash on every right you thought was settled.
Refuse the ritual that treats curiosity as blasphemy.
Refuse the pledge that turns conscience into treason.
Refuse the bargain that trades your neighbor’s life for your illusion of safety.
Mourn who you must.
Grieve like a human being, not like a focus group.
Hold vigil for the living, whose futures are always the first thing sold when the cameras arrive.
In America, martyrdom is a policy tool.
In Israel, it is a talking point.
In both, it is a market.
Markets love predictability.
There is nothing more predictable than a parade that ends at a voting booth and a weapons depot.
If you want to know what will be justified next, watch which coffins get paraded.
Watch who walks beside them with microphones.
Watch whose signatures appear on the bill afterward.
Watch how quickly the candles go out once the ink is dry.
A brand is easy to manage.
A corpse is easier.
Refuse to be managed.
Refuse to be easy.
You cannot resurrect the dead.
You can resist the script that uses them.
Hey @CarlHeastieNY hundreds of people from around NYS are here in front of the Capitol today demanding action on the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (S1464/A1749).
Public health is on the line, so bring it to the floor this coming session!
Anti-Zionism runs in my blood. What many Jews thought was revolutionary in the early throes of Zionist terrorism that led to the first Nakba and the settler state was only scratching the surface.
Counterhegemony became hegemony and we are living with the devastating consequences
This obsession with protecting elite bodies stalls those minds’ growth; an apt preparation for white collar life.
All while community colleges and tech schools alike teach hands-on construction skills to the next generation of blue collar workers.
Foundations for class strife?
Have the pro-Palestine folx who got fired and/or not hired for their views designed a startup yet? What would it be called?

The root of the problem is that housing is treated as an instrument of profit. The sole solution is to decouple housing from profit and make it a human right.

Plenty of laws throughout history were legal, but it does not mean they should have been.
Our legislators balked the opportunity to protect tenants, now the members of the BTTA are being targeted. @CarlHeastie @AndreaSCousins https://t.co/jVq60xh4RU
