On Int'l Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, DHoM @danielroethlin & diplomats honored 🇺🇦 children killed by Russia. At least 707 children have been killed since 2022, thousands abducted, many missing.
We mourn these innocent lives & grieve with their families.
My warm congratulations to Austria and my colleague @BMeinl on being elected to the @UN Security Council for 2027-2028.
As a close friend and trusted partner of Ukraine, Austria has consistently demonstrated leadership in defending the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
At a time when the state occupying the seat of a permanent member of the Security Council continues to violate these very principles, Austria’s presence on the Council will be especially important.
I look forward to our close cooperation in advancing a just and lasting peace and ensuring that the principles of the UN Charter prevail over aggression.
Fantastic result from New York - thanks to all Member States who supported Austria‘s candidature to the UN Security Council in 2027/28! It will be an honour for Austria to serve.
Congratulations to the fantastic team @AustriaUN and @MFA_Austria 🎉
I spoke with the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Christian Stocker @_CStocker. I am grateful for his condolences over the continued Russian aerial attacks. I informed the Chancellor about our intelligence data indicating that the Russians are preparing a new massive strike against Ukrainian cities and communities. It is very important that partners provide joint responses to these attacks, primarily through the supply of anti-ballistic capabilities.
We also discussed Ukraine’s European integration process in detail. We expect the first cluster to be opened as early as June. This is fair, and Ukrainians deserve it. I thank Austria for fully sharing this view. We also discussed our cooperation within international organizations. I instructed the diplomatic team to work through the relevant issues with Austrian counterparts at their level.
Today, I joined FM @andrii_sybiha and the Diplomatic Corps to lay flowers in memory of the Victims of the devastating missile attacks last weekend and to hear from the First Responders about their extraordinary efforts.
The heinous 🇷🇺 attacks against civilians must stop.
Russia continues its brutal terror against Ukraine’s civilian population. Overnight, Russian drones and missiles killed innocent people and injured dozens more. I condemn these heinous attacks in the strongest possible terms! Austria and the European Union stand firmly with Ukraine. We fully support every initiative leading towards a just, lasting, and sustainable peace. (BK)
Deeply appalled by Russia’s massive attack on Kyjiw with so many civilians killed and injured. These attacks only reinforce what is at stake: Ukraine’s freedom, Europe’s security, our shared values. Russia will not break the Ukrainian people. Our support remains unwavering.
DHoM @danielroethlin attended an interfaith prayer service at @nmbabynyar honouring Ukrainians who rescued Jews during the Holocaust.
Participants also paid tribute to the victims of Babyn Yar, WWII, and Ukrainians killed as a result of 🇷🇺 aggression.
As @koessler_g said in yesterday's debate: Austria's has been listening during our campaign. We will continue to do so if elected to the Security Council on 3 June and serve in line with our priorities:
Partnership - Dialogue - Trust
@AustriaUN counts on your support!
🇦🇹🤝🇺🇳
We thank @WFUNA, MS, Civil Society and other candidates for the debate on #UNSCElections 2026 🇺🇳
We remain a strong supporter of int‘l law & the UN Charter, and we will continue to listen if elected to Security Council.
3 June - 🇦🇹 counts on you.
Partnership - Dialogue - Trust
The Embassy’s flags are flying at half mast today as Kyiv is observing a Day of Mourning after Russia’s mass attack on 13 and 14 May.
At least 24 people were killed, including 3 children. Another 48 people were injured.
Our thoughts are with all the victims and their families .
Today, together with Austria's Federal Minister for European and International Affairs @BMeinl, we signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. We see strong potential for both short- and long-term projects. Expanding cooperation will enhance partners’ energy security through diversification of supply routes, while Austrian investment in hydropower and wind energy will strengthen Ukraine’s resilience ⚡️
We also agreed to hold a major conference in Vienna focused on Ukraine’s energy recovery and reconstruction — to mobilise partners for reconstruction, modernisation, and investment in the sector.
We discussed Ukraine’s urgent energy needs ahead of next winter. The priority is emergency recovery and the supply of critical equipment — especially transformers.
We are grateful to Austria for its support: Ukraine has already received over 159 tonnes of equipment, as well as €15.5 million contributed to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. These resources have helped procure equipment for Kharkiv, Sumy, and Kyiv regions.
We invited Austrian partners to actively engage with the Ukraine Energy Coordinating Group (#EnergyRamstein).
Thank you to Minister Meinl-Reisinger for her consistent support and readiness to deepen cooperation 🤝

40 years after the #Chornobyl catastrophe, Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s nuclear energy infrastructure once again pose a grave threat to nuclear safety. We call on Russia to immediately stop these attacks and fully cooperate with @iaeaorg.
Great meeting with @BMeinl in Antalya. I thanked Austria for its support for Ukraine, including the recent decision to join the work to launch the Special Tribunal.
We discussed the outcomes of elections in Hungary and their implications for Europe’s unity and strength.
We both agreed that the 20th EU sanctions package, €90 billion loan, and Ukraine’s EU accession must be unblocked as soon as possible.
We also spoke about the situation in the Middle East and the need for sooner stabilisation.
I informed my Austrian colleague about the battlefield situation, the prospects of peace efforts, and our remarkable defense industry achievements.
Austria has officially notified @coe of its willingness to join the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the Special Tribunal’s Management Committee.
I am grateful to Austria and my colleague @BMeinl for once again proving that neutrality does not mean indifference. To the contrary, accountability is critical to ensure a lasting peace on our continent.
Austria’s decision brings the total number of countries willing to participate in the Tribunal to 20, including 19 member states of the Council of Europe.
Each new participant cements the truth: justice for the crime of aggression against Ukraine is inevitable. This historic accountability effort strengthens our positions and worldwide respect for international law.
Today, Austria joined the Enlarged Partial Agreement (EPA) of the Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. #Accountability is a key trajectory of Austria’s foreign policy. There can be no lasting peace in Ukraine without accountability.
