I've been working on a UI framework called Quill, to drive e-ink displays on low cost hardware. E-ink is awesome, but it's kind of a pain to make beautiful and performant UIs for it. Quill aims to change that.

@kettlecorn I def recognize what you describe today. BUT do you think this was always the case? Folk art/culture, novel manufacturing methods, evolving or reactive artistic-philosophical movements seem to be other ”tastemakers”. Less relevant today? Why? 🤔
@mlajtos_mu Is skateboarding the same as playing Tony hawk? Is paint-by-numbers the same as fine art? Is vibe-coded software a good reflection of software eng skills?
I don’t think so, and it has to do with how much one engages / fidelity one controls
@mlajtos_mu (again, arguing for good fun; not because I think you’re necessarily wrong, or there even is wrong/right here 🙂).
I don’t think so! All the automatic filling of blanks is not expr. The (subconscious) control of 100% of fidelity is the expr! 1/2
@mlajtos_mu that said, i do love what some artists are creating with ai. it can def be used for artistic expression. just that the lowest bar not necessarily is
@mlajtos_mu thus becoming truly self expression. as opposed to ”name dropping an idea”
which is why ai art to me is not as dope as vibe coding. software to is also about getting things done, not just self-expression. so the democratization is doper
@hdarshane@johnnulls Also: many products shouldn’t push the interaction design envelope so much that design systems are constrictive / detrimental. Rather the opposite. Many valuable CRUD apps benefit from systematization. When exploring new frontiers in IxD I agree, but that’s not always the case!
While complexity isn't the enemy, learning new skills is an enjoyable experience etc... there's a flipside.
Namely: it becomes very hard to uproot a local maximum in interaction. E.g. the QWERTY keyboard. Much better layouts exist, but most ppl just can't invest a couple months
@seflless The first head mounted display system with three-dimensional tracking capabilities called Sword of Damocles inventor Ivan Sutherland. Has a ring to it!
